Oil pressure gage acting up

Oil pressure gage acting up
Hi
2002 carrera C2, 50,000 miles.
Oil pressure gage on car is acting up, that is, it will read normal pressure for a while (normal to me is increasing up the range to reach 4.5-4.6 at 5000 RPM at normal operating temp) but then, lets say coasting at 2800RPM, will start to jump up and down real quick between normal level right up to 5 (Never going too low). At times sticking to 5 for a few seconds but then coming back down to start swinging up and down again.
When stuck at 5, if I get RPM to idle, needle will drop but not as much as it normally would.
But then it can be normal for a few days before acting this way again
There is no way at this point I can believe there truly is a pressure issue ( or at least hoping).
I am leaning more towards pressure sensor issue or ground issue with it.
Haven t had a chance to look at type of switch and wiring set up.
Ever hear of pressure sensor issue?
Or oil pressure issues?
Thanks.

Me too. Bad sensor acted similarly to yours. It's a fifty year old design with more moving parts than the engine. You can change it yourself. It's on the right side of the engine toward the front (Porsche people sometines call it the back but I go by the direction that the car travels). I had to buy a real cheap
open end wrench and bend the end in a vise. After turning the sensor 1/12 turn, I had to bend the wrench the other way. If you had 2 wrenches, bend one one way and one the other way. 45 degrees is fine.
