Question What tire pressures ...

For those with 996 sporting 18-in wheels, stock suspension, what tire pressures do you maintain on your car? For those who participate in AX, do you change your pressures when compared to street driving? If so, what do you set for AX?

I run 36f and 44r. for AX, I drop 3 pounds, and check after I've run, adjusting back to 36f and 44r. Depends on the day how much more I end up dropping. Last weekend, when it was 85 degrees and sunny, on black asphault, I ended up dropping a total of 6 in front and 10 in rear to hit 36/44 hot.

AX tire pressure discussions tend to be, to put it politely, passionate. You may want to try it a bit and find your own happy place. I've tried as low as 32/36 and as high as 40/50, and I've found my results to be best by hitting factory settings when hot. Your mileage may vary.

Good subject and timing. Not sure how different it would be with the C4S, but think I'll try to keep at 36/44 thru the event this weekend. (Seems like fronts @ 38+ with the heat taking them to 40, has understeer going on). I will admit that the original Michelin Pilots from 04' that are on the car seem to not fluctuate as much as some other tires after multiple runs.

I went from Pzeros to Pilot Sports and loved the change. The Michelins seem to be a much better tire for AX, while still providing the N rating.

My sports are from 04', so not the PS2's. (I do have PS2s on my Pantera, and my sons 05'GTO...........they seem to be a much grippier tire. The current sports look to be a harder compound.............guess I could check and see)

I'm actually running 18" Carrera IIIs, takeoffs from a 997 (not sure which year). Previously I had 19" Carrera Classics, also takeoffs from a 997, running Pzeros. It was a huge difference making that change, I think most of it was due to rubber, since the overall diameter didn't change and the overall weight didn't change much. The PS2s are 200 or 220 treadwear rating, same as the Pzeros were, but that just shows you how little that number means.

An old thread, but I wanted to search before asking the question ...

What do you guys with Nitro in the tires run for pressures for daily use?

Seems I'd want to be a couple PSI above normal "cold" pressure given the nitro won't heat up as much.

According to Porsche TSB's 33f & 36r Half Load and 36f & 43r Full Load... If you run Full Load PSI all the time you Risk Cupping your Rear Tires, trust me i know...

Track i run 36 PSI Cold Pressure all Around...
