Which B&M Short Shifter should I install?

I'm looking to install a B&M Short Shifter in my '02 C2 Cab and needed your input as to which one I should install. I've been told that there are two kits available for my car. One is installed in the center console and another by the transmission. Is any one better than the other? Who should I have install this? Is there a good shop in North Orange County? Can I install this myself?

Thanks for your help and advice!

Id get the under car....easier to remove in case you do not like it...Also, on the under car you can adjust how much throw reduction you want where as on the in car you can't...

Contact Arling at Lucent Motors, their staff has done comparisons between the Tech Art and B&M SS kits. They are great guys with a lot of knowledge. They are a Board Sponsor...

Hope that helps...

Lucent just installed my B&M undercar short shifter..........nice and smooth 30% reduction and it now has a more positive feel. Not notchy like the console one.

I installed the in-car B&M shifter a couple of weeks ago and it it absolutely wonderful. The long throws of the OEM shifter wasn't my only complaint; the sloppy feel was terrible too. Both problems have been eliminated.

My B&M requires only a minor increase in pressure to complete the shifts, and if a sports car "rifle bolt" feel is what people call "notchy", then I really like "notchy".

I had the B&M under car kit installed a month ago and really like it a lot. Shift throw reduced 30%, and much more defined. I was concerned, based on posts I've seen on various boards, that the in car kit would increased shifting effort too much. Mine is a daily driver, so I didn't want the shifting to be overly tight. Here's my post with more details:

FYI - the RUF, Techart and B&M under car are all the same except for the price tag!! the first two go for upwards of $500 while the B&M can be had from Brandywine (have not found anyone else who sells it yet) for about $200

Yep--from looking at pix of the RUF and Techart, it appears the only real difference vs. the B&M is the color--and the price! The Techart goes for $750, and the RUF was quoted at $400 from one source and $500 from another. I got the B&M for $175 from Brandywine.

Here's a pic of the B&M (blue) installed on my car, and the RUF (green):

Lucent installed the OEM short shifter (center console). It is also made by B&M. I love it. I bit notchy but I love it. The throw is shorter than the undercarriage. At least it seems like that to me.
