Dustless Brake Pads

I was checking several sites selling the new Hawk - Ceramic pads.

All list the HB291(front) and HB290(rear) as fitting 1999-2005 C4 but do not list the C2 Porsches.

Are the C4 brakes the same as the C2?

I have dustless EBC Greens on my Viper. Not great for the track but work fine for street use.

gfroman - they are the same. I installed the Hawk cermanics early this summer and they are as dustless as you are gonna get while still keeping good braking performance.
Now I only need to clean the wheels about every 2 weeks or so!

Thanks for the info.
Never changed brake pads, but hopefully won't be too difficult.

Changing the brake pads is very easy, but if you have never done it before it can be a challenge. You need a channel wrench to push the old pad into the calipers and the sensors can be a PITA to get out.

Personally, I would buy the pads from your local mechanic and have him show you how to put them in.

When I first started tracking my 996 I used the Akebono Ceramic pads. They are another dustless pad that worked well on both the track and on the street. Now that I use the 996 as 75% track and 25% street, I use Pagid Blacks for the track and still switch to the Akebono Ceramics for the little street driving I do.

Best part? Around $80 a set.

I misspoke. I just checked the prices on my last order. The fronts are 91.08 and the rears are $72.00.

This will help you if you've never changed the pads out before. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=7065 They're really not too bad at all to change. You bleeding the brakes as well?

+1 for the EBC pads. They have a wide range of pads from street use (green and red) to track use (blue and yellow). The street pads perform well and dust very little. Along with Hawk, they are the brand that I have most frequently read good things about.

I've had great luck (although have not switched on the C4S yet as it only has 6k miles) with Porterfield R4S's. Good holding, MUCH lower dust, and dont seem to eat up the rotors.
