I can check my oil with the engine running now.
My 997S showed the oil check display before startup so if I forgot to check it and cranked the engine, I would have to shut the engine down and wait for the 30 second countdown to check oil. The turbo is so cool, the engine actually has to be running to check the oil and you can do it at any stop light because it only takes 6-10 seconds for the oil to settle. I assume it's a dry sump vs wet sump thing? Anyways... 750 miles and it looks like the oil level hasn't changed. Woo hoo! I also tried out the "GO" button for the first time today and holy mother of god, I love boost! You guys with stage IV+ kits must be in heaven!

Couldnt take it anymore and didnt want to pass up the chance in getting the GT3, so I traded it in....Totally difference experience!!

Agree 100%, I drove OldGuy's 997GT3 and loved it! The car is so raw and amazingly precise. Driving the GT3 and immediately getting into my car made my 997S feel like a luxury car. If it had rear seats, it would have been my 1st choice.

I agree that it's nice to be able to check the oil with the car running...but, why did Porsche disable the oil check when the car is off? Is it because you can't check the oil without the oil pumps for the dry sump on?
Now it's kinda of a pain to check the oil, turn off the engine, add oil, and then crank the engine and check it again...of course, as I write this, I realize that one could just keep the engine running while adding oil I guess.
1400 miles and down 0.5 liters.
Still, I would have prefered just a dipstick if at all possible...

Yes it's a dry sump, no oil pan per se to measure a static level as in a wet 'sump'. All gt1 derived motors are dry sump, hence must be checked running at idle at temp.

On a similar note, all 993s are dry sump. Hence the drain plug in the rocker for the tank, and one on the engine for the case.
