Upgrading my 997 Turbo to 750-800 HP!
#121
Another problem that I found that was affecting my drag strip results as well as the overall performance of my car were the Blow Off Valves!
....The springs inside the Blow Off Valves Im using are too soft! They are causing me to blow off 100% of my boost pressure between shifts.
Just so you know some tried running without BOVS... so ur on boost all the time... VERY dangerous...
... if you want better results you need a 17 inch rear rim with 275/40/17 MTs.... and have the ***** to shift the car faster... (speed shift)....
I don't think it has anything to do with ur BOVs( assuming they are not stock). I have another car and the boost drops to 0 between shifts as well.... just like in my P car... thats just the way these things are...
Bobby, Todd's friend, ran a 997 just on a flash at 15 psi at 11.2 @ 127 mph... all stock except 17 tires, an ecu at 15 psi and a hell of a good driver...

You want to bleed out all of the pressure in the charge pipes in between shifts.
My understanding is you want to keep the turbine speed as high as possible. When the charge pipes contain pressure and the throttle plates are closed you get compressor surge which reduces turbine speed. The charge pressure of the pipe doesn't matter when your off throttle because your turbine speed will be so far reduced by the back pressure when you do get on the throttle again you'll have to re-spool. Remember, it's all about turbine speed, not pressure when your off throttle.

Very interesting write up and congrats Keith.
How much power did the IPD plenum add in the end?
How about a 40-140 MPH run thats where this car should be a complete animal....? I personally dont care much for drag racing but more for running from a roll...
Smaller rims and fatter profile tyres should help the wheel hop... maybe the sharp clutch you have is not ideal for massive launches either. Beef up half shafts and you should be able to be more adventurous... !!!

Hi,
what is your acceleration time from:
0-100km/h
0-200km/h
and 0-300km/h.
BTW
Your connecting rods can be broken all the time during hard acceleration.
All know that there the same from 993 N/A engine till now.
One more thing, pistons will last for about 30-40 hours, this is a problem of engines over 750 European ps.
There is a very long list of problems, gearbox, drive shafts......
Good luck,
Karol

My car is running the stock plenum. Never put the IPD one in. : (
If you havent seen it yet, I ran a stock ZO6 here from rolling start.....45-160 mph. I let off around 180. Vette stops at 160.

I like the Sachs Stage II with the lightweight flywheel! That is what I have my eye on for when I finally run my stock clutch outta town!
