Rumors from PMNA
Folks-
Next generation turbo (2009-2010?) will have a base price $25,000 above the current 2008 base. Also with Direct injection, and PDK on floor. No word on whether the car will be a flat-6 or V8.

There have been turning points in the design of the 911 that if the new model is a real 911 anymore (water cooling, etc.).
I think going to a v8 for me will pretty much be the turning point

What's a PMNA? You mean PCNA don't you?
Seriously aside, at this point, anything is possible. I seriously doubt that the next generation Turbo would be coming out so soon. The earliest we're looking at getting that would probably be 2012 or so. The last generation 911 (996) was in production from 1998 (as a 1999 model) until 2005 when the 997 came out.
Continue to stir the rumour mill though. It's FUN coming out with all kinds of ideas isn't it?

Lots of people look at the 996 as not being a true 911 because it doesn't have the oval shaped headlights Kaz. And I doubt that they'd bring that back after they've gone back to the traditional style headlight.

My personal view is that the current iteration is going to be the last rear engine 911. Perhaps there is a 998 which will be a freshened 997 which is effectively a freshened 996.
Car beyond 998, let's say in 2012 +/- would be either mid-engine or rear mid-engine car I would guess...bit like the 599 but flipped around. Rear engine has gone as far as it can IMO. R8 is testament to how good a well developed mid-engine can be.
Also, as long as we're prognosticating, I suspect Panamera will be a sales success but will be dillutive to the brand overall. Frankly, with their reverse take-over of VW Group I'm not sure why they're bothering. Should have spent that money on continuing to push Audi sales.

Folks-
Porsche Motorsports North America (PMNA) is always a better source of information than is Porsche Cars North America (PCNA). Our racing community is a bit more 'leaky' in terms of what is coming up than is the official closed-mouth coporate guys.
