Winter Tire Question - 305/30/19s

Yes, I've searched, but I am still not 100% clear.

I just traded my 2007 Z06 in for a New Leftover 2007 Porsche 911 Targa 4, at $15000 off sticker I couldn't pass it up, it has the optional Turbo rims and 305/30/19s. That is why I came over to the Turbo forum.

I live in PA and just in case of the occasional unexpected snow while I am at work I would like to be able to get home. This happened to me in my 2007 Z06 and it was BRUTAL.

There are no All-Season Radials in 305/30/19s, however, there are many in 295/30/19s.

I found one old thread where it said the 295/30/19s would fit just fine on my Turbo rims.

Has anyone done this?
Is the fitment perfect and does it cover the whole rim.
I had a 2001 Viper GTS and the Kumho replacements even in the same size did not come out as far on the edges, it looked strange.
How does it look?
Can you really notice a difference in looks between a 305/30/19 and a 295/30/19 from the rear?

I don't want to put dedicated Winter wheels on, I like the looks of my car as is, so 295/30/19s would be my best option.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Any questions about the Z06s performance will be answered if you are curious.

The 295 section tires will be just fine on 11" rear wheels. 295 is the tire Porsche fits to many of their cars with 11" wide tires.

Congrats on the new ride - quite change from a Vette, eh?

Thanks for the quick reply.

Most likely I will make it through this season, but by next year I will need to get all-seasons and 295/30/19s will be it if they don't have a 305 availabe by then.

Big change from the Z06, I still have a C6 Vert.

The Z06 in cold weather was just too much car for me.

Any throttle input at speeds up to 90mph would get you sideways, even with Traction control on.

I decided I was going to lose my license or more importantly my life in that Beast of a car.

325hp and AWD is perfect, fast enough, rock solid, and so stable compared to the Vettes.

I have owned numerous high powered low 11 second cars, when I tell you the Z06 was the only car that truly scared me, you know it was an animal.
It just never stopped pulling and with only RWD you better be pointed straight and be ready to back off.

I'll have to try out a 911 Turbo if I feel the need for more speed again.

You're going to miss the stump pulling torque.

Thank you so much.

That was the definitive response I was looking for.

I will run my current tires through this season and by November they should have around 8K miles on them and at least I have gotten decent use out of them.

If I can I will try to find an extra set of Turbo rims to mount winter tires on instead of mounting and unmounting every change of seasons.

Thanks again!!!

PbPedis -

Maybe I'll miss the torque, but my whole life all I've had is cars with HUGE torque #s:

The Viper had 490, the Z06 had 470, the C6 has 400, my worked 03 Cobras had well over 500.

Unfortunately, torque does not always make it to the ground, it often goes up in attention grabbing smoke or unsafe fishtailing.

I have to tell you, my 911 with only 325hp/273tq broke all 4 wheels loose yesterday in 1st and the Traction Control kicked in

I turned the TC off and tried it again, it still broke them loose, but the AWD kept things stable, it would start to wiggle a littleand then you would feel the AWD compensate and with very minor correction it stayed straight.

This could be lack of grip of summer rubber in 45 degree weather.

With the Z06 I would never dare turn TC off in cold weather, even with it on it could not react fast enough to stop you from going sideways.

I am trying to find a car that has the balance of acceleration and stability that is safe and fun at the same time.

Will 325/273 be that combo????
