Kudos to David and SPI; I have seen this car and many other SPI creations and they all share the same passion and extraordinary attention to detail that Tym and the rest of the SPI gang put into every build.
I expect to see this car, David and Tym at Mid Ohio for the NOR PCA event October 4/5. David, maybe you should bring the GT2 as well... I have a garage we can share.

BTW Markski... Todd had asked me about our clutch package for your car a while ago... but to be honest, I won't put anything out there until I feel it's completely ready to do the job. Yes, I built a clutch for David's previous 996TT about 2 years ago using Tilton Carbon components... it was the clutch I felt would best handle the tasks at hand. We've refined a few things with it and it's been working beautifully in David's 997TT. If you get your setup working correctly, I think you will get similar results! Best of luck!
As you can see by the most recent dyno chart... in addition to me abusing the clutch pretty hard on the street during testing, David's car has well over 100 dyno pulls... most of which have been over 700rwhp. So it's been holding up quite well!

In the past year we have seen a stock ecu with 2 step and brake boost featuers, a standalone ECU, and a clutch rated to 1,200tq. Yet forum members have been saying for years these things aren't weren't possible.
Hats off to Tym and the guys for pushing the envelope and making things better (rather than just try and copy existing parts and make them cheaper like others), I expect to see many records fall this year, and part developement for the 996 to go through the roof. I watched a similar thing happen in the Supra world a few years ago when the AEM was released, I look forward to seeing this have the same effect on the 996, it will benefit everyone.

[quote=dk996tt;2009109]actually more like 140+ pulls. about 120 on the dynojet and about 20 on the mustang. quote]
just curious what was the difference in power between the Mustang and the Dynojet(if any) that you observed at these power levels?TIA.Joe

[quote=joetwint;2009724]i believe most of the pulls on the mustang dyno were for baseline purposes. i will have to check the dyno sheets, but they were lower than the dynojet but pretty close. if my memory serves me correct, i think the dynojet was about 450ish and the mustang was 430ish.

If I get a chance, I'll throw the car on a Mustang Dyno in AWD trim as it sits now... there's really no way to get a consistent conversion between Dynojets and Mustang Dynos in my opinion. Unlike the DJet, Mustang Dynos have too many user adjustable inputs that can modify their final results... so I think it will be tough to find one Mustang Dyno that reads exactly the same as another... from what I've seen, almost everyone who owns one has it calibrated differently. It doesn't mean that I think one is better than the other. I like both for different reasons. I think they're both great tools for what we do. I like using our Dynojet when we can because it's been ultra consistent for me.
I have a Mustang Dyno nearby and will take the car over there for a few pulls when it's convenient. I would rather do that than try to give you a guess based on early pulls and early configurations. I prefer real world numbers... I don't like to race dynos. I can lean on David's car and make more on the Mustang than I did on the Dynojet, but there really isn't any reason to. I don't think I have anything to prove... how the car performs when David is using it is the only proof and confirmation of our work that I'm interested in. The rest is just a reference point for my R&D.

i wanted to get an idea of 1/4 mile trap speed, but i didn't want to beat on the car at the track. so i used the driftbox to get an idea of what kind of mph i would see at the end of the 1/4 mile. i simply eased it out of the hole (probably a 2.5 sec 60 ft time) and then hit it. the driftbox showed 146 mph trap speed. the car is full weight, full tank of gas, full exhaust system, and factory recommended tire pressure. does that sound right for 850 rwhp?

i was actually hoping for something closer to 150 mph, but i didnt want to beat the hell out of the car for a trap speed. i just wanted to get an idea as to where the car would be.

You're not making my life easy... you drive out in the new GT2 which is damn fast and you want me to impress you with what I've done to your 997.
Just isn't fair. I'm going to get you an Enterprise rental or something for a week...

I think the car pulled quite well considering it was a roll out with a passenger on board.
