help ECU upgrade

Hello guys,

I'm thinking of getting an ECU upgrade. I live in the middle east to be more specific in Qatar and i use not sure but either a 97 or 95octane gas. so what are the best recommendations on the ECU? should i go GIAC? Protomotive? Techart? Gemballa?

Should i go with a totaly new unit or upgrade the original unit?

by the way, a brand new unit sells for aprox. $900 here.

Ahmad

buy a new one and have it installed on your car by the dealer and take the one on your car now to make sure it works and send it to any of the tuners here and if you can add an exhaust to the ecu then you'll really feel the difference! Enjoy and ive tried www.evoms.com and cant be happier

Check out VIVIDRACING. they offer softronic, this is a do it yourself flashing. I think its the best, you dont have to pull out your ecu and send it overseas. Take it from me, its a real pain doing that. I've sent mine to several and my ecu was toast! Give them a call at vivid.

$1500 is an inexpensive cost for piece of mind. Buy a ECU, get it cloned from someone who has PIWIS and a friend at Porsche for codes. It takes 10 minutes to swap in and out...just pull the negative terminal on the battery before doing it.

Candyman,

Thanks for your input. I ckecked vividracing's website. it says "Currently, 997TT ECU's must be sent in for flashing". Did you manage to upload the software on your own without sending the unit?

where does GIAC stands from softronic in terms of hp/tq gain?

also is a header and an intake a mandatory option? or i can survive with an exhaust and the ecu upgrade?

again this was from vividracing "Reflashing is done according to additional modifications (Intake, Headers, Exhaust) to enhance power gains."

It depends on the software, but in general, most headers and intake changes yield little improvement (unless you are changing everything from headers, turbos, exhaust.) Exhaust flow will influence temperatures, which are dramatically lowered (good) with most aftermarket systems.

Softronic is releasing their CAN OBDII Flash cable shortly so you can do it with your laptop and an internet connection. I would recommend the exhaust, headers, throttle body, and Werks intake. Just ask Buzz

You have a couple ways of going about it..

1. Purchase a new ecu and have it flashed for your car; a couple of the vendors here can do that.
2. Get a flash cable (Softronic / FVD) and flash it yourself.
3. Flash your current ECU.

If you are going to flash your current ECU .. Ruf in Bahrain is IMO the best choice; Your friend most likely installed a new engine, and that is never cheap. Ruf has several (affordable) options for the 997tt. In addition to having a flash custom to your car/enviroment, they also provide warranty on the parts they installed (and a local service garage).
