Need suggestions for a road trip
Was planning on taking the wife and kids away during their school break in a few weeks but wife can't get away from her office.
got me started thinking that maybe a nice road trip for me would be nice. It is torture having a nice car and living in the NY metro area so i'm always thinking of getting away to find some nice roads.
I could do one of two things. Let's assume I have 3-4 days for this. I would be willing to fly somewhere and actually transport my car either to the destination or the other way around. Figure about 10 hours driving a day? Where would that put me?
Or, the 2nd option, and much less ambitious would be a "round trip" (driving wise) trek in the north east. Maybe Vermont or N.H. and do some kind of loop.
So, for you road warriors any suggestions or ideas?

Drive south, pick up the Blue Ridge parkway in VA, drive that down to TN (take the wife antique shopping)...roll over some back roads to NC.....do the tail if you wish.
My wife and I love road trips, we've gone cross country 5+x's (last time was strictly on two lane roads). 10 hours driving is a lot, esp. with kids. I recommend 5-6 and making sure you stop a lot to see what's going on. I've covered the vast majority of this country by car, except I've never been further north on the east coast then Penn

road trips...
I like HotRod's idea...
Did this a couple of years ago on sportbikes with a couple of friends. We would get up semi-early, eat breakfast, and hit the the road until we either got tired or the sun started to set. Then we picked an interesting motel and checked in, then went to dinner. When we got back to the motel we would open the maps up and decide where to go the next day. The only firm plan we made was the date and time we left. I call this "getting lost". It's awesome if you're of the spontanious variety.
And here's a tip... talk to everyone whenever you stop. You meet some pretty cool folks that way.
