HRE Wheels compatible with Factory TPMS?

I've got some new HRE P40's arriving next week. Just spoke to my porsche dealers about them doing the sensor swap from my stock wheels to the new ones, and i got this reply from them

"I have sought some advice from people more technical than myself and it
appears that is not possible to change the valves to different wheels.
The sensor for the monitoring is a unit that fits onto the wheel and the
valve inside the tyre and is far as we know cannot be fitted to any
other type of wheel. It would be possible to simply not have the sensor
but then you would always have a warning on the dash. I don't know if
there is any tweak available on this, may be worth speaking with the
wheel supplier.

Sorry not to have been too helpful, let me know if I can help further."

One of the reasons i went with HRE was the fact that they quote as having full compatibility with factory TPMS. Anyone here had problems with doing this changeover?

You need to ask HRE - I'd be very surprised if the P40 doesn't take the Porsche OEM TPM sensor. In fact there are very few of the new aftermarket wheels that do not take the sensor - e.g., most of the Champion wheels can be fitted with the Prosche TPM sensor and valve stem. Unless your dealer has specific information about the P40, he really doesn't know what he's talking about especially when he says "far as we know cannot be fitted to any other type of wheel." I'm sure someone with P40's will respond.

Thanks. HRE say they are 100% compatible. I spoke to the dealers again and they have suggested when the wheels arrive i take them in for them to take a look at. It appears they haven't seen anyone with decent aftermarket wheels as yet.

The Porsche TPMS will fit on the HRE P40 without any problems. It is a simple switch from the OEM wheels to the HRE's

The problem is that aftermarket wheels, at least mines (GP7) are not beveled where the sensor seats, like OEM , to compensate the sensor weight. They balance very well without it. Otherwise are a PITA.

I had the factory valves/sensors switched onto Champion's RS171's no problem.

I think the GP7 is a great looking wheel. I'm surprised to hear you have balancing issues. I haven't heard that before. I know another member here (Eclou) has GP7's and he tracks with these wheels. He hasn't mentioned any balancing issues.

According with my mechanic they need between 200 to 300 grammes to be balanced. Eclou said 6" long of weight were needed, perhaps i need to find another mechanic

Alcyon,

most tires come from the factory with a dot over the heavy spot on the tire. A knowledgeable mechanic can mount the tire with the heavier side of the tire opposite the sensor to help offset the weight
