Wind and the Clutch

the wind definetly played a factor because it was really blowing against the car. The 997 Turbo has Evo intercoolers, boost hoses, headers with ceramic coatings and Giac software with the race tune. I admit that I was afraid to push the car and wanted to know what I should expect with that horsepower potential. I will track the car on a better day. How much can you push the clutch without ruining the pressure plate? I would blow the pressure plate on the clutches of 80s mustangs. I would speed shift and could really get going but sacrificed the clutch. The dealer said you will ruin the clutch doing burnouts with the car.

i don't think i have ever seen a 997 turbo trap over 130 mph with modded vtg's. i think most people were typically in the 126 - 128 area.

If 690 is supposed to be the power output, it should trap 130's. If 690 means something else, then yeah, maybe that's right.

i agree, if it is truly 690, it should trap 130+. just stating that all the 690 or 700 numbers posted to date have been in the 126 - 128 range.

I was referring to the "690" moniker. It should trap 130+ like a 690hp car then - if not then what does it mean?

Anyway, even a 600hp TT will do 100mph in the 1/8th. Something's not quite right here...

I don't think the HP could be over 600hp, as my 540hp GT2 (Giac tune with evo wastegate acuators and muffler) runs 10.8, 10.9 between 128 and 130mph consistently. I do think if you can get the 60' in the 1.9, 1.8 range you will pick up .4 or .5 tenths and 4 or 5mph on your traps.

Evo's car ran a 10.8 at 129 with the same mods.
My buddy also ran an 11.4 at 121 with a stock turbo.
You got some work to do.

Jamie, you have a different motor, ~400 less lbs, RWD and LSD. So you should expect to do more with less. Not to mention, the motors are completely different. And you run at the best Trap Speed tracks in the country. I dont think we've seen a 128 from a stock Z06 come from anywhere else.

I think we are starting to see some big dyno numbers from the 997 TT, but nothing from the performance side yet 60-130's, 1/4 mile to substantiate them.

But it's actually possible for his trap speed to go down with a better 60'. You wont gain 4 or 5 mph with a faster 60' assuming all else (shifting) the same. Unless the car lags real bad in 1rst gear.

^^^ What he said. Trap speed will slow down with a better launch and quicker ET. My 11.4 was at 123.33, and my best mph of 126.50 was like a 12.1.

That seems very slow, my 2002 X50 with stage 4 ran 11.9 at 120 my first time at the strip. Here is the video from almost 5 years ago, this was before I put the GT700 in. I had a run that was a little better I think 11.6 at 123, I will see if I can find that video.

Clutch

I need to know how hard I can push the sachs clutch. I am confident the mods are working I just need to get on it. Considering the money I have in the car I was nervous to speed shift the car and push the start. I will do this again and I am sure I will trap better times. I just want to know what the top speed should be for this kind of horse power.

Now that does make sense. Slow shifting can cost you a few MPH. especially on turbo cars if you are having any lag.

Close gears

I read that the ZO6 can go almost 60+mph in first gear which would help the car in the 1/4 miles because of the limited amount of shifting. During the 1/4 mile run a driver in a 997 turbo has to shift 1-4 gears which could produce a lot of lag. Also if you do not shift at the optimal level this will affect the outcome. What is the best RPM shift point.
