2. A supplier screwed them over for the bearing shells that were failing. This recall affected all S54 M3s built before 2003.5. All in all, BMW eventually fell on their sword, issued a recall, extended the warranty, paid the dealers 7 hours for every recall executed, gave us a full tank of gas, and that was that.

To me, that's just a testament to the risks BMW M was willing to take for pushing the envelope of engine tolerance in 2000-2001. If you want reliability, get an Accord V6.

As for the people who say the E39 M5 engine is "better", well, more power to you. Some people like torque, some like revs. High-revs are generally harder to attain and usually take more technical wizardry. So those are the engines that win the awards.

I do not think the engine of the year awards are a PR-fest. That would be sad and if proved, I would hold the S54 in a lesser light.

Cheers,

Zubin.

I said I liked the way it felt better, I'm no engine mechanic so I dont know which is "better" so to speak.

Hence the reason the new M3 has a version of the E39 M5 engine with a higher rev limit and better than both in power output, rev range, and overall ability.

But with being a V8 it probably has some different cometition.

It really is amazing that the E46M3 ever rebounded from the grenading issues. I recall one weekend at TWS 2 out of 3 new 01 M3's had engines explode on the track.

Now they are saying you definitely won't be able to touch one for less than $90,000. Lot of money for a Wii on wheels.

at $90k the lease payments are going to be similar to a $110k Porsche. The dealerships and hype now have killed the "bargain" aspect of the car.

A lot of guys were running around saying they got the car for 5k over etc. But most of them dont have ACTUAL sales agreements. I told them over and over again to get it in writing but nooooooo. Now the dealers are bending them over.

This is the U.S., Nissan cant do jack about markups.

Completely untrue. There are a lot of buyers that secured a car at MSRP from what I have read on NAGTROC. I signed my agreement for $9k over. I could have got one out of state for under $5k over, but I decided I'd rather buy locally. If I had searched further out of state, I could have gotten MSRP. I don't see very many people paying $90k. It's not worth it to me.

According to Nissan they are going to have a subsidized lease on the GT-R. If this is true it will be far less than a $110k Porsche. It still remains to be seen if they follow through with the program.

Well I was being very conservative. fact of the matter is, they're getting 20k-30k mark up.

I seriously hate that argument...it's so irrelevant and just shows how much people confuse monetary wealth in life with actual value as a person.
Cars are a matter of personal worth based on preferences and budget. Whether you want to spend 150k or half that for a comparable car doesn't make you a better person one way or another. Plenty of people that have Ferrari or Porsche money still drive Lexuses, or Toyotas if you will...wow what a bunch of purified morons...

And just shows how much of a pompous *** you are for being able to afford a 150k car and looking down on the rest of cars as if you never owned anything but a Porsche. Oh wait, that's if you own one actually or maybe I'm confusing you with an actual owner, as the VW in your avatar belies your attitude...
Also I don't know if you got the memo, but the glass ceiling is still above you even with a 997TT...whenever you want to come back down from that pedestal you crawled on top of...or look up for that matter...

Also, please...do show us where you are getting your figures. I love the claims of 'facts'. Show us a quote from an authorized dealer...and if that involves you getting your pants pulled down because you know so little about the market or the fact that you're 20, well, I'll just stop pointing out fallacies there...

And as soon as they hype dies down, as there is one for any release of this magnitude, show me one for over sticker...then we can resume the equivalent/comparable performance for 50 cents on the dollar argument.

There are dealers asking $20k -$30k over but, they are not selling them at that. There was a dealer by me that wanted over $100k, and is now at MSRP for his allocations. Asking and getting are two different things.

You're first comment was so out of right field my head still hurts from reading it. No one made a comment about monetary value of a person or anything like that. Well I can't afford a Porsche or an 80k Nissan so I won't even argue your first comment further cause you'll just spin out into even more irrational comments.

So for part 2 of your response, I work for the Autobarn Ltd. www.theautobarn.com. <----Not putting in a shameless plug, I swear! My dealership is getting 3 GTRs in for now. The first 2 were sold since last year with a 20k markup on each. Also, all the dealerships in the Chicagoland area have done the same. So please, do research yourself before accusing me of making up figures. Why would I do something so dumb? Don't I know it'll blow up in my face? Hey I may only be 20 but I've been on this board for 2 years already. I've learned not to make crazy assumptions
