Engine Revs at startup...

When you start the engine, does anybody else's RPM's jump or rev up.

when its happened the RPM's jump up to between 1500 to 2000 RPM;s .... this is with the clutch pressed all the way and just after the key is turned over.

It doesn't always happen....so i'm having difficulty nailing time the exact circumstance (ie does it happen if the gear is left in 1st or reverse).

I'm curious if anybody's else turbo does this ... if not, i'm might give the dealership a call.

Thanks

I'm pretty sure mine always revs to at least 1500 rpm when I start it. Every once in a while (only happened 3-4 times in the past year... completely random as far as I can tell) it will rev to over 3000 and no, my foot wasn't on the gas.

I'm talking about the initial RPM when the key is turned. The engine doesn't stay there; it drops down to around 700 or so (haven't really paid close attention) right away.

I too have experienced this on occasion. Stephen Kasper at IA found that his was due to a defective coolant temp sensor that told the ecu to give the wrong startup fuel mixture

that's encouraging that i'm not the only one with this issue.

Eclou, so after defective coolant temp sensor was replaced did this solve the problem?

07turbo I would ask Stephen at IA about the specifics. I have chosen to ignore this as the PIWIS shows no faults on my car

Ditto above.

Happens rarely and without obvious cause. Revs to about 2500-3000 then drops immediately to usual idle speed. A little disconcerting, but probably not a real problem.

Bumping this thread, as I have had this happen intermittently for no reason whatsoever. Anyone find a solution?

FYI this isn't a problem confined to Turbos, visit the other forums 997c4s etc all have this trait. Not sure the cause but unsettling to dry start a motor taking it to 2500 or 3000 rpm's even for a short while. No answers here just misery loves company. Rt

oh yea, Rpm jumping on start up .this happened to me. either you have a vaccum leak or your Throttle valve needs cleaning. took mine to the dealer and they cleaned the throttle valve now all is good and RPM stays stable
