If Nissan can make it work (GT-R), Porsche can, too. It'll come.

But a 325lb ft limit in its current state rules it out from duty in the Turbo, GT3 and GT3. They’ll get PDK eventually, but it needs to be beefed up first."

That sucks
WHY??!! The GTR is rated at 435lb/ft but actually produces in excess of 500lb/ft and it has a dual clutch

I may be wrong but doesn't the Bugatti Veyron use this sort of clutch?

I believe the GT-R has a dual clutch, but the R8 has a single clutch setup like the Gallardo.

Even if the next generation PDK can handle stock torque numbers, I'd be weary of choosing this transmission if any engine mods were planned. Basic mods like an exhaust and ECU would likely not be tolerated.

Nope... the R8 has the Gallardo's Gear ..... open up an R8 and you would actually see the Lamborghini logo on the box.

Yes it does, but the box on the Bugatti is huge and heavy. However weight is not a major issue with such a car.

The current DSG from VW / Audi and such, is also limited to a certain amount of torque. It had something to do with a part of the gearbox, which oil couldn't handle it or something. The newer version is being developed as we speak, and Porsche is waiting for that. Once VW can fix it with a 3.0TDI, they can on the turbo.

It is hard to believe

It is hard to believe that the Porsche PDK cannot handle the Turbo HP and Torque. I believe the GTR dual clutch is a Borg warner and it is handling 500+ hp and tq. I also believe the turbo all wheel system is a Borg Warner /Getrag. It has to be a utilization/cost benefit/profit issue. Porsche's engineering is the best, they could handle this in the 80's, they were waiting for the ECM's to catch up, the ECM's are there.

Does anyone know what is involved with changing the clutch on a dual clutch system versus on a manual?

The benefits of the GT-R being so huge and heavy is that a bigger beefier system can be put in the car. I'd bet money that unit they showed there is smaller than the GT-R's, and still adds 55 (claimed) lbs. You go bigger and the weight goes up even more.

So now we are talking about a 3350 (or more) lbs GT3 and 3600+ lbs turbo, which would still actually be lighter than a tip, but much heavier than the manual. And just like the GT-R would run out of gas over 100 mph.

The VW DSG is according to VW limited to 257 TQ, but I am running 320WHP/319WTQ on my 2008 DSG MKV GTI without any problems

And many people even run more than that for a considerable amount of miles/time already so the VW statement is underrated
The DSG can handle way more than what is advertised

good point but as what heavychev talked about. Its like GTR.front mount engine will be much easier to fit a larger stronger gearbox.Panamera's PDK will be totally different than the 997 one. Also Panamera's weight isnt that important for a sport saloon car so ye porsche did it!
