Tooki Ripoff

Tooki Ripoff
I just had a Tooki installed and after paying $900 for the job, found out it doesn't work well with Palm Treo Phones. The installer called the manufacturer and was told that it won't sync with Treos. I was really pissed off and spoke to the manufacturer and requested a refund including the labor cost which of course he refused. There is no mention anywhere on their web site about incompatibility with Treo and this is a major model of cell phone. He said I should have gone into their forum site and researched the problems with Treo phones. I told him that if they were that aware of the problem then they should have had a notice on their web site. This is ridiculous and other members should be aware of this.
My dealer will refund me the money but I think the manufacturer sucks if they know their product has this shortcoming and doesn't try to protect the customer from this $900 mistake.

That's bull. I used my Treo 680 perfectly for 3 months without a problem. When I switched to the 3G iphone it also worked without problem. The only issue with the Treo is that your contacts don't load only the favorites (which is better cause with my iphone all 400 contacts load up and I can't find anything). Good luck I would bet it is the installer not the phone.

I was on the phone with the manufacturer and he admitted that I could not make calls directly from the car but would have to make them from the Treo and then the hands free would work and with incoming calls, I would have to hit the 'send' on the Treo to activate the blue-tooth system. Both the installer and I talked directly with the manufacturer about this issue and he offered a refund on the product. My problem is that I went through the problem of making plans to leave the car, had the system installed and now have to either get a different phone or have it removed. The fact that they know this is a problem and it is not noted anywhere nor is there a notice to call them first to confirm compatibility is a poor business practice. This is not a Walgreen's special but nearly a $1,000 product and I think that they leave a lot to be desired in the communication department.

I am sorry to hear about your problems. I am surprised it didn't work. I researched it out before I purchased mine and there are many Treo users not having the problems you described. My install and use is seamless. I get into the car and it automatically links to the tooki. All calls can be both received and sent thru the car or the phone which ever I prefer. Once properly linked I did nothing and it works every time.
I wonder are you using a Windows based 700w treo? I was using a palm based phone and that may be the difference. I did hear about Windows based smartphones having problems with the Tooki.
It might be cheaper to get a new phone than to remove the system. Treos are soon becoming fossils compared to the new smartphones on the market.

I used to have a Treo (in fact went thru 6 of them and every one of them had issues/problems). Anyway, when I got my Tooki installed I had a Dash which I really liked. Unfortunately, like you, id did not work with my Tooki - tried everything. Switched to the Blackjack (these were all company phones so they paid for them, lol). Blackjack worked great, except the phone book would not link. I just switched to the new Blackberry and WOW, what a difference. Linked immediately, phone book linked right up, and it recognizes my phone as soon as I turn on the car. Tooki needs the latest software on both your Tooki and your phone. Good luck! You'll be very happy when you get it all working (I say dump the Treo - they suck).

Is this really a problem with Tooki...or rather Palm. I have had so many problems with my Palm...including syncing with my sister's Lexus, that I finally switched to a different phone.
I'd personally blame Palm, not Tooki.

i also had a palm 700p and it had a lot of difficulty with many in car blue tooths. i had parrot blue tooth mounted in a previous porsche-the palm would make handsfree calls after much work but would definitely not let the parrot read it's phone book. i also got a blackberry worldphone and what a difference-like night and day-it was completely compatible with the parrot, then with a tooki in another porsche and with the bluetooth in my mercedes-the palm is not a good phone to use with your tooki-get a blackberry.
