Intercooler Temps Stock Vs Modified

Has anyone compared what the stock IATs where before and after upgrading to an after market intercooler?(AWE, EVO, blown six, etc.) I have seen charts from AWE on their intercooler but it does not compare it against the stock units so I was interested in what someone gets with the upgraded intercooler.

I think AWE chart compares temps and pressure drop of their units vs. stock 997TT units.

I saw that graph; however, when you are driving the 997 turbo at high speeds the amount of air flowing through the intercooler is greatly increased so my thinking is that the larger intercooler is negated at the higher speeds because of the enormous amount of air that flows through the intercooler. I am no expert at this but I just wanted to know if anyone actually looked at their IAT before and after the intercooler install.

Actually the SECAN intercoolers used by RS Tuning keep intake temperatures to within 20 degC of ambient.

This is why it's used in the highest end Turbo applications, particularly in endurance racing.

Hi,

I tested performance intercoolers on 997 GT2 at Manthey racing dyno.
We measured 8C lower temp in intake system and 10PS more compering to the stock ones.Hope this would help.
Cheers, Karol

Karol,
What units are you referring to with 10PS? Is that pressure?
Thanks Mike

The most important thing is Manthey racing is one of the best dyno in Germany with great environment for tests like this.
I don't remember how many cubic centimeters of air they have but a lot.
I tested blown six.
10Ps is 10 real horse power.
I would like to test evo and awe but I haven't got one.

They are also the best in the business. Can you honestly say that any others can even dare to compare?

What type of water injection are you talking about?

If you mean REAL water injection that actually injects water into the engine with the fuel, it's definitely not cheaper than using a SECAN core. If you mean water/methanol injection on an intercooler's surface, that is a freaking joke.

14.5K EURO is a lot, but it's worth every penny when you are dealing with high end engine builds. Those RS Tuning engines are worth more than 10 times that cost. In addition, even water injection cannot guarantee that intake temperatures won't exceed 20 degC over ambient, a SECAN core will. Often water injection kicks in when temps reach over 40 degress over ambient, really to prevent detonation. It's not by accident that the best forced induction competition cars use SECAN intercoolers.
