Rear axle-differential lock

Im planning on picking up a 997 turbo with about 2100 miles on it.

How does one know if the 997 TT has Rear axle-differential lock installed?

Thanks!

They should be able to give you the spec sheet and the original window sticker on the car, and it would be listed there.

If Tiptronic --none have it .
If manual - some have it . It is an option . It would appear on the window sticker .

It forces power to both rear wheels in a situation where one wheel is spinning. On a rear wheel drive car the lack of this can be pretty limiting if you are trying to put some power down out of a turn or in a situation where one wheel has more grip than the other. I'm not sure how important that is on an all wheel drive car.

I have it but frankly I, too, am not sure it is of much use on a non track AWD car. I am a hang over from american muscle cars, so when positraction is offered, I take it.

code is 220 or you can look at the gearbox number, second digit will show.
1 is no diff
2 is LSD

one more thing it's very important, you should have it.
It will help to preddict what will happen when you will loose grip, a specially in wet conditions.

LSD also helps to settle the rear when you lift off throttle, which can be a good thing at the track.

It is Quaife not Qaulife I would go for Quaife if it was me because I know of their reputation and engineering from the past. They make a great LSD for the Mini-Cooper

Why the 997 Tip has no rear differential lock? - I apologize for taking this out-of-context, but there was a thread on Rennteam about this a while back-

http://www.rennteam.com/forum/index.html?vs=9

Quotes included:

"With Tiptronic there is no space left for LSD. With PDK will be the same."

"The 997 Turbo Tiptronic has been "integrated" into the whole networked design, it is NOT the same Tiptronic setup you may already know from the 996 Turbo or even from the 997 Carrera models..."

If anyone really has an answer about the Tip and lack of rear axle differential lock option, please let me know.

Thanks in advance!
