997 TT beats GT-R at Ring. Nissan accused of cheating.

This thread must be among teh most amazing on the web. Its evolved from this to that to the other thing, from a debate about 7:29 to apparent acceptance than 7:29 is "optimistic" to drag times.
For drag times, Ford Probes sometimes run 8 seconds and I've no doubt people will successfully mod GT-Rs to great times. Probably, ultimately, with solid axles and PowerGlide trannys or something similar. For the right money/mods, minivans can runs <10secs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lj2Ei...eature=related
In the end, like everything, truth always wins as evidence compiles. The GT-R will go down in history for being a congregation of technologies and for ringers and lessons and ultimately, the formula of the Z06 will probably win the day. Light (as fuel efficiency is forced on performance car makers) and simple (as the need to make money is forced on car makers). Some things from the GT-R will come along. The dual clutch tranny is no doubt a future mainstay, and advanced electronic handling aids aren't going away ever.
Great thread, great cars, great reads, great times.

Dude-- come on--- use your head. They simply change the firmware that gets flashed into every car coming down the line. They make tweaks like this all the time. There is no physical change needed to turn off LC. Most likely it is a single bit/flag that needs to be flipped to "off."

monaroCounty - you really do talk nonsense. Give it up and concentrate on your school work.
Funny how the grey-import UK cars manage to do the numbers given that they aren't factory-supplied and prepared.
As for more powerful press cars - from gtr.co.uk:

Thats why they can charge triple the price of the Datsun. People are willing to pay for quality, prestige and history not some fragile, PR driven, boat with no soul .
Porsche normally under rate their performance times, Nissan typically over rate them.

I can't believe some people are still defending the 7:29 as done by a stock GTR. Also, People speak as if Nissan is at the cutting edge. Porsche pioneered this in the 959 20 years ago. The Porsche folks did not want it. No driver's aids.

Dream on. The average Porsche has as many electronic "driver aids" as any car in existence. They're here to stay and they don't all necessarily spoil the driving experience.
If they did, every keen driver would be in a Curved Dash Olds or a Model T.
Technology = progress.

Com on dude, use your reading comprehension skill (or lack of). The guy who works at Porsche says that the "Press" cars get the extra special treatment by Porsche. What's that got to do with Porche charging triple the price of Datsun?

When you cant turn them off, it spoils the driving experience = GT-R.
And no car in existance has as many gadgets and computer controlled nannies than the GT-R. In a Porsche you get PSM, PASM or PTM. And those are new to the 997 in the GT3 and GT2.
No ones gonna buy what your selling.

In a Porsche, the driver's aids don't come on until they need to in order to save the driver from his or her lack of driving skill.

oh, but wait, there is no tranny problems because ONE guy. Let me quote the link as it is very pertinent here:
1) In car #1, while driving on the highway at about 170 kmh in 6th gear, the gearbox suddenly refused to selct 2nd, 4th & 6th gears. Upon stopping and re-starting the car, the gearbox would only be in Auto mode and the only gears on tap are 1st, 3rd & 5th. Car has done 32,000km and has been serviced regularly. Only mod is Mines ECU program and Sunline Racing Y-Pipe.
2) In car #2, after a trackday, the gearbox refused to select 1st, 3rd & 5th gears, thus leaving its hapless owner with just 2nd, 4th & 6th. This car has bout 12,000km on it, and has been tracked and serviced regularly and the only mods are the Cobb AccessPort and a Sunline Racing Y-Pipe.
* Both these cars are very early examples of the 2008 GT-R with Chassis #s in the Sub-1000s and Low-1000s.
My questions are as follows:
1) I read on this forum that the early production GT-Rs had some sort of Gearbox Solenoid Issue that was addressed on cars with Chassis #s later than 2000. Is this true?
2) Have any of you guys encountered this? If so, what's the Fix?
It does not seem as if any of the gears are broken, they just can't be selected, which means it must be an electronic glitch of a very irritating kind
In-line with this, has anybody out there tried the Willall Racing WRTM Gear Oil for the GT-R? If so, do you recommend it? Am due for an oil change and am thinking of trying this out.
Mindlessoath - Do you have any perals of wisdom to add to this particularly vexing topic? Any help at all appreciated.
Finally - Does anyone out there make a transmission oil cooler??? Looks like we are going to need one!!
Cheers fellas, Arj
