John there is no doubt that the car is impressive. But unlike you most of the buyers of the Nissan were looking for a BANG for the BUCK not a BANG from the TRANNY.

The demographics for the GTR buyer is not looking to place another 20-30K in the rebuild of the TRANNY and a loss of the Driveline Warranty from Nissan.

I have never bashed the performance of the car as I have raced one and driven it hard. It is harsh on the streets in the comfort settings(mostly due to the run flats) and it push at limits. Amazing enough it stays the course but I can see why the few early buyers wrecked them. It fools you into being a better driver but in reality we know its the gizmo and tires that keep you planted. I am not a track guy but I can run the mountains pretty well and I can say that my head would tell me not to push harder but the car would make you think you can. It is not always a good thing for that combo to work in unison.

I am glad that you have the means to upgrade your tranny knowing you will lose your driveline warranty. You seem to not worry about it but I would say you are in the minority.

Best of luck..

Not the mention that the guy fixing your car is in JAPAN! But wait to pass on the savings to you they use VONAGE to call to TECH SERVICE in JAPAN though!!

I will better that. I will sleep at a Holiday Inn tonight and fix your tranny tomorrow. At the Nissan Dealership: Sir Sir I know you fix these broken transmissions and you are a "GTR" specialist with advanced 1 week training. But did you sleep at a Holiday Inn?
Some apples are green. I have an apple. Therefore my apple must be green?

I'm sorry, but your logic is severely flawed.

The fact of the matter is 99.9% of GT-Rs are just fine with no problems at all. The few broken trannies are already related to excessive use of launch control or launching a modified car with a lot of torque. You act like people are just driving around normally and the GT-R tranny just explodes.

Do you not remember the bad clutches and oil leaks that plagued many 996s? Almost all cars, especially first generations, have issues that need to be addressed. And the only reason it's a "$20K" repair is because Nissan right now is only offering to replace the entire transmission unit. In a matter of months there will be MANY companies that sell a stronger first gear upgrade (because that is all that's needed to fix the problem).

But again, this isn't happening to all GT-Rs. It's happening to less then 1/10th of 1% of them.

I've owned several Porsches and enjoyed them. And now having the GT-R I can honestly say it's a FANTASTIC car. For those of you that are 'hating' on the car I would encourage you to find someone that can take you for a spin (or let you drive it). You'll quickly change your tune about the car. It's an amazing piece of engineering.

I have Porsche you have a Nissan GTR therefore you have a Nissan GTR. That is my logic.

You have no idea in regards to your 99.9% comment as I know more than a few that busted from not using LC.

I have driven the GTR if you read my comments. Also I am not a 1/4 mile person so your data is useless to me in regards to times. I would rather take a a few turns than to drive somethiing down a straightline over and over. Different strokes for different folks.

If you are no longer a Porsche Owner then why come in here touting your 1/4 times? This was originally a RINGER thread that turned into all sorts of crazy. Now you come in here talking about new gears, I am happy to have busted my tranny, etc.etc. Glad you know how to waste 20+ K. Once again your money, your time and your problem.

Funny how people try to use logic flaws when all logic is flawed. Humans created logic, Humans are not infallable therefore Logic is not Infallable. Good try but that doesn't cut it with the Apple comment. Flawed...

Nagtroc is less than a 10% sampling of owners much as this board is as well. So don't extrapolate or extend your percieved data with real data.

In regards to the 996's - we are in a 997 forum aren't we? Did any of us say Porsche is flawless?

This is not my first horse in the rodeo.

This morning I was watching "Speed" channel and "Supercars Exposed" was on. They were driving the GTR and said something to the effect "0 to 60 in 3.2 seconds, faster than a Porsche Turbo at half the price." They failed to add "But only if you want to void your warranty." They continue to mislead.

It doesn't matter. I tried the suppository method with the new 1st Gear assembly from Pfitzner in Australia----car seems to drive the same, but I had to drill a big hole in the seat just to sit down.

Look, it sucks that the stock tranny can't handle hard launches with big TQ mods. That was kind of known from the beginning. Still no word of ANY additional busted trannies from LCs in stock car or normal street/track use (non dragstrip) in modded cars.

I love that so many of the stock components of the TT can handle big power. Realistically, however, I strongly suspect that PDK will be the weak link in 997.2 PDK Turbos in terms of modability and hard launch durability.

The lesson is clear: don't LC launch your modded GT-R. NOt sure what else we can learn from JohnTurbo's experience (other than maybe that the focus on getting the fastest 1/4 times can be an expensive obsession).

And after watching the amazing driving of this guy you can definitely tell the 'Republic' driver was no where near as skilled.
+ 1. After watching Suzuki san drive the GTR - he makes Chris Harris look like a complete noob.
What puzzles me is that some of these Porsche fan bois simply cant put 1 and 1 together. Simple maths and logic really. They believe that the turbo can do the Nurb in 7:42. Fair enough.
Now, the GTR is kicking the turbo's *** left right and center in every track test by a margin of at least 1sec to as much as 5 sec a lap on tracks that are between 1 and 2 min long.
So if you extrapolate this margin onto the Nurb - which is a 8 min track, you will have the GTR kicking the turbo by at least 8 sec easily. So what is 7:42 minus 8sec? 7:34. Add in Suzuki Sans awesome driving and you get a few more secs off, and we end up with 7:29. Easy.

Wishful thinking dude....
I bet the engineer at Porsche who said that they tested the turbo to be faster than the GTR is in church each day asking god to forgive him for his sin of lying....

Thats funny from someone who rides a tricycle.

Owned? How old are you? Let me guess 12.

No one has owned me on this at all. More speculation than facts. So it doesn't matter. Don't get your panties in a wad over nothing. I don't so I expect the same from you.
