My new Insanely fast SPI Turbo Tip, Vbox times
#1
As some of you know, I recently picked up a black 911 turbo 6 speed and sent it to Tym Switzer for his Sledgehammer package upgrade. While I was at his shop checking out David's (dk996tt) Sledgehammer I drove Michael's (GT RUS) Silver tiptronic 911 that had been upgraded with Switzer's 750 kit. I really liked this car too, and long story short, I bought it from Michael last week and drove it 500 miles home to Tennessee. The car hasn't had a single issue, nothing weird, no glitches, no check engine lights, just pure fun.
This tip car is blistering fast anywhere in the 0-120mph range. It is easy to drive fast and easy to drive slow. Anyone looking for a great daily driver with loads of acceleration when you want to get on it, this is the perfect package. Tym is a pleasure to work with, and very accessible to his customers. Not only that, but he knows what hes doing and then some. He facilitated the transaction between me and Michael (who is in Russia), and has answered all my questions to my satisfaction.
Early this morning I decided to put some Sunoco 104 octane fuel in the Tip car and take it out for some Vbox runs. I started with some 60-130mph runs allowing the car ample time to warm up before getting hard on the throttle. The weather was a cool 62 degrees, with 90% humidity, the sun was just started to come up. I turned off PSM and turned on sport mode. I downshifted to 2nd gear at about 53 mph and hit the gas. I let the tranny do all the shifting. When it was all said and done, I performed 4 runs and the times ranged from 6.85 - 7.17 seconds. The best run was the final one, so I decided it was time to head back.
Closer to home I found my spot where I like to perform 0-60 and 0-100mph runs, and decided to give it a shot. Same sequence as before, psm off, sport mode on. I held the brake with my left foot and rev'd up to 2700 rpms with my right foot. I let off the brake and mashed the gas, the car flew off the line and stayed straight all the way up to 108 mph before I had to hit the brakes. Again I let the tranny do all the shifting. The run felt good and I looked at the Vbox display to check out my times. They were as follows:
0-10 0.2
0-20 0.7
0-30 1.1
0-40 1.5
0-50 2.1
0-60 2.7
0-70 3.3
0-80 4.3
0-90 5.2
0-100 6.1
Accel Distance results
Distance() Time(s) @Speed(mph)
0-60' 01.6 43.8
0-330' 04.5 82.2
0-660' 06.9 107.0
This was a big improvement over my previous best times, so I decided to call it quits. I have to say I am very impressed with this car and the upgrade. I cannot wait to get my Sledgehammer back as well. Thanks Tym!
Here is a link to my other thread that has pictures and info on my 6 spd car that is undergoing the Sledgehammer treatment. There is also info and pictures of this Tip car at the end of that thread.

pretty f'ing sweet rip there! That car is doing about the same 60-130 as my AWE 700 kit, but there is no way that my skill + 6spd could pull a sub 3s 0-60. Congrats, that car should kill most anything off the line.

Gene, what octane and program were you using when you did your 60-130 runs?

Mike I was on Race with 104/93 blend when I ran the 6.9. That was also on the access road when the Sheriff's Deputies sodomized me....

Wow..Aaron..I am getting jealos as well...Nice times...I didnt expect the car to perform that good...I guess Tym exceed our expectations...nice...now I start to think may I need to get 2006 TipS not manual to do the same once again ))) for daily driver it cant be better...I guess it would run mid 10s with 3000RPM launch..

Folks I got to experience this beast first hand this afternoon and all I can say is HOLY SH?T. Thanks again Aaron for the ride. This thing pulls like a freight train from 0-100. I must commend you Mr. Switzer for your work and I have a feeling I will be knocking on your door at some point. Michael (GT Rus) I can only hope your next purchase will be as good as this and you will not be dissapointed. When I pulled up at Aaron's house and saw the 55 gallon drums of race gas in the garage I knew he had some issues.

Congrats Aaron, that thing is absolutely blistering off the line. i think my sledgehammer recorded a 0 - 60 time of 2.54 seconds with about 250 more rwhp. Needless to say, you have the ultimate daily driver as it is still so docile when jogging around town. 6.85 second from 60 - 130 is not too shabby either, but i guess we are speaking in relative terms. I still crack up when i see you 1/4 mile trap speed on the drift box. You really don't have any place to do a full 1/4 mile run? I would love to see what the driftbox says. I would have to think that the car is definitely good for a mid to high 10 second pass!

You right...the only logical step after this car is Sledgehammer...but I still didnt experinced that kind of power...may be Sledgehammer would be too much for me as daily driver in summer...
