Pdk 911 Cs
Swatdoc and I just finished test driving the a 911 CS with PDK at our local Porsche Dealer in Melbourne Fl.
It was very impressive!!
The Sales Manager took us out first and did the launch for us and it literally made us light headed.
I ve never felt that sensation in the turbo. It was an amazing feeling to be
catapulted like that. Push the sport button, hard on the brake and get the RPMs over 6,000 and let go.. HOLD ON. 385 HP all on the road.
Now I cant wait for the turbo version probably in 2010.
I have been driving manual trannys all my life but today I realized things will change. The PDK is awesome in the Carerra S.

Unfortunately my tubo can launch like that, that smoothly and simple because there is no launch mechanism and I dont want to burn a clutch up dumping it at 6,000 rpms.
Swatdoc and I were literally breathless,, the feeling was like being on a roller coaster on the way down a steep rise. It was really an amazing experience.
Imagine adding 100+ HP to the engine and launching it when the turbo comes out.
Now I cant wait to the drive the PDK turbo in a few years.

I agree with your comments! I just drove an '09 PDK Carrera S yesterday, and I must say, I was very very impressed with it's speed.
While I wasn't completely sold on it, I still had nothing but great things to say about it:

As you said above, I can't wait until they put this transmission in the new Turbo! It will be untouchable!

I have been driving nice cars since my vette at age 17 in 1968. I have never lost my breath til today.
when the sales mgr (and it took me by surprise) did the launch on a back road (and he has practiced this for a month),, i was in complete shock.
off the line this 385 HP car using launch would BEAT my turbo say to 50 or 60 since I dont have that launch capability. And Swat said it would beat his GT3 off the line.
AMAZING brute power in this new 09 C2 with the PDK.
Been day dreaming abt the turbo for 2 hrs now ,, cant imagine 520 HP (they will raise the HP from mine I am sure) and the PDK... WOW
Cabman in awe still

Unfortunately, turbo's torque may be too much for PDK:

PDK okay for V8 twin-turbo but not okay for 911 turbo or GT3? I must be missing something here.

Let me get this straight: a Normal Carrera S with PDK launched faster(felt faster to you) than your turbo?
Wow that is impressive. I have heard enough similar reports that I believe you.
I mean normally that would be hard to believe. But not with this PDK its not.

and don't take this question wrong-but is there any relavance of launch control to real street driving? can you do this frequently while driving, or is this a track technique. let's be honest-the turbo with a six speed manual is as fast as stink-do you think that this will be a practical improvement? thanx

I guess the launch sensation only comes into play when you are at a traffic light. Once you're rolling, the car will feel like a regular Carrera S with 385hp, so the Turbo, especially with all this extra torque, will still feel much faster.
They must have put some very strong axles/gearbox on the new 997s to be able to withstand this launch force on continuous basis. Should be really helpful when someone wants to supercharge the car later ;-)

That is what I was telling my buddy when we were stopping and playing with this new gismo, the launch control.
On the track or a fun run through FL,, we never normally stop on a country road to play 0 to 60.
Its a gimick BUT it is neat the first few times you use it.
Again,, i ve had all kind of muscle cars from a 68 427 vette with the 3 deuces 460 ft lbs of torgue,,,,,,, AND this 385 horse power C2 produced more force than I ve ever experienced in a car in my life. I literally told the salesmen TO back off,,,,,, god,, incredible.
its the lightening fast shifting from 1st to 6th that catapuled this thing with amazing force.
WOW
but in real life on the road or track,, what good is that??
NO tire squeel,, no skipping of the tires like if I poped the clutch at 6000 rpms on my Turbo,.,, every bit of HP hits those rear wheels and there is NO waste as in most 2 wheel drive cars.
It was exciting to say the least.
Swatdoc,, DO YOU AGREE?? from your drive?

It's pretty incredible. No it is not a track technique and the PDK is designed to lessen the power output to save the life of the tranny. So going back to back to back will lessen the bite from sensors with the temps, etc. It was designed to be used and for those who want to try and abuse it is supposed to decrease the effectiveness of the launch.

Drove it / Love It !
Iam going to order a Cab4S with a July / Aug build ( 2010 Model )
I have picked all my options along with PDK
I want the std seat since you can get them with the cooling function , But no painted seat backs?....
Maybe leather seat backs is a option...
I love the Widebody
PDK has various shift options ( Progams )
