Best performance tuning package for 997 Turbo?
Folks-
I know there are many tuners out there offering hp/torque upgrades for the 997 Turbo. I also remember the great issue of Excellence magazine in which they conducted a 'shoot-out' of 996 turbo tuners (I don't know if a similar event was staged for tuned 997 turbos, and if and where that might be published). I am less interested in the initial power characteristics of the various tuner offerings, and more on the experience of people who have driven these cars for some period of time (reliability, driving experience, etc).
Some of the contenders include:
-AWE 700 kit
-Evolution motorsports (EVOMS) EVT 700
-Switzer performance - "the hammer"
-Roock RST 600 LM 997 turbo
-ImagineAuto Stage 5 EVT 700
There are obviously others, like Ruf and Gembella, as well as the local shop down the street. Many of these vendors seem to use others components, emphasize VTG upgrades, etc.
Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Thanks - Gerry

bbywu-
Well, many of these aftermarket tuners seem to share a variety of components. That was not the case with the 996 Turbo modified cars.

Isn't Texas mile coming up really really soon? I think we'll have some comparisons for all these packages.

I have RUF upgrade on my car, the kit is unreal, it is reliable & really fast comparing to the other tuner's. I believe you have a RUF center in Texas.
You can see he thread I have posted on Saturday, this is my run 11.58 @ 133MPH

It all comes down to how much $$$ you have to spend.
You can go to Reinhold Shirmler (RS Tuning) and he can build you a race motor that can cost you well into the 6 figures that make everything on this board look like a joke. Your wife is a race car driver in Europe, right? Ask how fast the Jurgen Alzen Motorsport 996TT was at the ADAC 24H Nurburgring in 2003/2004. That was "only" 700bhp and built by RS!
Domestically, you can have Neil Harvey of Performance Developments (same guy who developed CJV's engine) build you a prototype motor and the sky is literally the limit on how much you can spend. He has build 962 race motors for the factory, and has done prototyping for F1 engines as well. He even has contracts with manufacturers that custom fabricate connecting rods, valves, pistons, etc. to his specifications.
Even a full Ruf motor can run you $100K nowadays. It's reliable for sure and even comes with one of the best warranties in the business.
