Oil measurement system

Is the oil measuring method different than in the cayman S?

In the cayman, the recommended way to measure first thing in the morning while on a flat surface without having started/drove with the car. When you measured the the oil after use, waiting times would go up to 20 minutes, I guess because the oil was probably splashed all around. Even then measurements would not be accurate, say I checked oil in the morning, and it showed me a reading of full, measuring after 5km of driving would show me it needed another 250ml. Letting it sit for a few hours showed me the correct value.

In the 997 TT, it seems the opposite? It does not check till the engine has warmed, and to warm it I need to drive it, so will the measurement not be accurate because as in the cayman, the oil level is lower because it(oil) has been flung around?
Once or twice I let it sit idle in the garage to measure it when it warmed up, but Porsche is against letting the car warm by idling, it clearly states start and go!

Any ideas? comments?

Thanks

there is a huge difference, the turbo is a true dry sump with external tank. The cayman is a wet sump with an integrated oil pan fwiw.

The "drive and go" instead of letting it warm up you refer to is for emissions more than anything so that the catalysts warm up quickly as possible.

Porsche917, the manual does not mention the consequences of letting it warm idle.

Is your statement out of experience or is there literature I have not read yet.

Thanks!

Its the same reason they keep putting the cats closer and closer to the head, they used to be way out on the end of the "downpipes", then they got a little closer and finally they now are integrated right into the manifold itself, The closer they get to the head, the faster they are going to reach their proper temp and start working most efficiently , Its ok if its 20-30 degrees outside to let it warm up a minute or two before driving if you want, but really its best for you, the engine, and the emission output for you to just drive it gently until the engine reaches operating temperature , no wide open throttle runs and keep the revs down.

I would think living in the U.A.E. that you wouldnt be waiting long for the engine to warmup anyway in the winter time lol
