Question Will a PDK be an option for the 997 Turbo ???

I had the opportunity to drive a '09 porsche with the new PDK and it was really amazing. I had a '02 C4 cab (6 speed) that was totally modded and loved the car. I ended up selling her and got a ferrari F1 360. After having a F1 tranny, it would be difficult to go back to a stick. Also my wife also loves cars and enjoys driving and does NOT like a stick.

Does anyone know if there are plans for a PDK for the turbo ???

for those of you that have a auto, what are your thoughts on the performance ???

bob-just my opinion here-the tip turbo that is available now is quicker than the 6 speed, but the manual tranny is perferred over the automatic. now the pdk is a more responsive tranny than the tip (i have driven one on a c2s)-without having proper paddles on the column and not buttons or levers on the wheel, that will never be like the f1. part of the fun of a turbo is shifting with the manny tranny-i think that is part of the experience.

Tip quicker on straight lane accele because the TCU designed to avoid turbo LAG when changing gear to stay at right RPM..

but if you running on a track, will be totally different stories..Tip is pretty much useless on track...Thats why we need PDK.

2010 turbo will come with DFI engine and PDK tranny for sure.

Maybe not the CARRERA one..Anyway they might put a stronger one for TT.As most of PDK tech transformed from DSG,remember the 1001hp bugatti monster using a DSG as well!Nothing it can't handle..Just depends on cost and tech.TT is the top model of normal 997(not include GT series) so it deserve the best gearbox tech.

Rumors about 997.2 Turbo say it won't be equipped with PDK, it will be offered on the next generation Turbo though.

PDK is a completely unique transmission and was not transformed from the DSG.

Bugatti Veyron employs DCT. It also nothing to do with the DSG and was manufactured by Ricardo.

2010 Turbo gets PDK and 500hp. GT3 RS is getting the PDK as well.

I am hearing Porsche is not going to have a Turbo for 2010. 2011 will be the new motor, with PDK. If the current economic conditions carry through 09 we will see some other changes as well. With light production for 09 this makes sense, it gives dealers a chance of selling current inventory for the next 12 months. We have already seen what 09 PDK's have done to 07 and 08 tip values and this is just the beginning. 08 C4S tip cabs are now below 80K for a low mileage car.
Also, how would a 997 Turbo S fit into this? If they go PDK and new motor for 2010 there is no chance of an S.

IMHO the tip tranny is NOT useless on the track. In fact, for most drivers (ie. average drivers), I seriously think it would be substantially faster around the track than a 6 speed. Just miss 1 shift and your screwed in a 6 speed. Just my modest experience, but unless your a Red class PCA driver I think the tip is truly excellent for driving very hard and following lines. I'm not addressing the "fun" factor which the 6 speed wins hands down, but make no mistake - tips are VERY fast (both on the track AND the street). My 2 cents.

the difference between a 08 tip vs a 09 pdk is a superior engine as well. i don't think the new turbo engine will be anywhere near on par with the gt1 engine's capabilities. i would take a 700 HP Tip vs a 500 HP pdk. now, i would love a 700 HP pdk, but from what i hear the new engine probably won't be as easy to mod or handle the additional power.

Just like OBD 1 cars couldn't be modded, then OBD II, etc and so on.
The new cars will be modded, dependable is another issue but once you mod its no longer an OEM issue IMO.

The Veyron's gearbox and clutch control system is BorgWarner DualTronic (according to their press releases), i.e. DSG; Ricardo make the box.

???

http://www.automotive.com/auto-news/02/40386/index.html

That's for the 2008 Veyron Cab

"The seven-speed DCT, first developed for the coupe version of the Veyron, is the result of a highly successful collaboration between Ricardo and Bugatti"
