Reliability of the modified ~700 hp 997 TTs?

Folks-

I know this is a dumb question to ask - like they say, if you want to modify a car like the 997 TT, you shouldn't have to ask about reliability.

I am considering upgrading my ~550 bhp 2007 TT to the full AWE 750 hp(race gas) kit. I have modified 911 turbos in the past with no problems, and the kit does not involve changing any of the internal components.

I am just interested in any good or bad experiences from folks who have modded to their turbos to high horsepower.

Thanks in advance!

I have about 3-4k miles on the AWE 700 kit with multiple track weekends and 1 stint at the Texas Mile. Car still drives better than stock as a daily commuter and no hiccups whatsoever. My wife drives the car more than me and has not uttered one word about any negative characteristics going from stock > AWE stage II > AWE 700 - and believe me, she is like the "Princess and the Pea" as far as sensitivity!

These motors are even slightly more suited to big HP than the steller 996tt. 700 crank is about all you'd want out of a stock block. If you want more then you need to strengthen it....

On 996TT's plenty of times but only with motors we build. On the 997TT's we've stuck with the VTG set ups which hit a ceiling around 700 anyways.

I should add that answer depends upon usage and in my terms was applied to a "street" car. For a more serious track car (and more abuse) you'd really be best served building/strengthening.

All the tuners saying they are ok,but I still worrying about. So I don't drive my car daily, only in the weekend or track day. No more than 50 miles a week...

If you drive a EVT700 or AWE750 ish car every day and rev it every day, even the engine still working fine but the power output will be less and less everyday for sure, thats what modified engine always do.So save it life=keep the perfact performance.

isnt there a reason why porsche only have overboost for 10 sec, for internal stress relief? . (gt2 engines have titanium conn rods , tt dont) there is no long term test on the modded cars, i am not talking 3 and 5 k, more like 30 k and 50 k. or do we?

I am in the same boat as you are. I am seriously thinking about shipping my car to AWE for the setup that eclou has. I have asked these questions of everyone I can think of. I don't track the car and it is not my day driver. I drive very conservatively. The answers I get seem to be all the same ie that the car is reliable, fun, and has longevity. I am going to run this by my dealer who is mod friendly and see what they say about warranty. They may want to do it for me, make the money and keep my warranty.

I may still go through with the AWE deal.

Interesting to note the following:

-You will be very hard pressed to eventually sell the car. If you plan on trading it in, for most dealers, they will have to return it to stock form to sell it at a low price (read: auction).

-You could take that money used for mods, and put money towards a GT2 or a dedicated track car.

-If your modded TT becomes mostly a track car, it will have a short and expensive life.

Just some thoughts...

2 years here and still ran like a champ

I would go with Proto 750 or SPI 750 plus AWE coolers if u dont want to get SPI or Proto intercoolers.

I know 2 friends went with Protomotive

1- Turbo upgrade $1200
2- Reflash $3000
3- DV's $300's
4- AWE intercoolers w/silicon hoses $3000
5- Prototech X-Chamber exhaust ( HE SAW HUGE DIFFERENCE MOVING FROM 200CELL MILLTEK TO CATLESS PROTOTECH ) but i would recommend u to go with SPI CATLESS exhaust system $3850
6- airfilter $150 maybe

Total: $11,500

0-60 high 2's
60-130 6.6-6.8sec
125-187.5 13.4sec

0-187.5 in 22-23sec

If u wanna pay $20k i recommend u to pay that $20 to Proto 850hp kit w/GT30R's like keitha and SPANK gixxer's

take a look

I'm sorry. Am I reading this right?

You're telling us that for $11,500 you can build a 997TT with bolt ons that runs 0-300KPH faster than a RT12?
