pray for him and his family
I read this on the news last night. i pray for him and his family. it is people like him in car companies, doing this work that is meant to benefit us, remember. WE have to learn from this.
This barrier looks too high for a low slung car, looks like it is better suited for taller cars, SUV's and small trucks, lorries etc.
Crash engineering would mostly be at the extremities of the car.
the safety railing missed the front structures, where there could have been a rebound of that car. unfortunately, the railing height also acted as a trap to hold down on to this car.
Being lodged under the railings, it seems like the two A columns were the only things that could have helped him or other cabrio drivers, in an accident like this, on this stretch of safety barriers.
It's obvious that the A columns in a cabrio would be far less strong than a coupe's; esp. in a lateral hit like this.
i now think that the engineers will be thinking out a possible solution for increased protection around the A and the screen of cabrios.
i note that the rollover structures did not deploy, and perhaps, these should deploy even if there is not a rollover. that would protect against a similiar accident from the rear, at least.
I repeat, ..................all our thoughts for his family. RIP.
