Purchased a 911 Turbo, question about wheels (TPMS)

I purchased a 911 Turbo last week. It's just great to get back into a Turbo again. Will post pics later during the week.

I purchased a few parts before I got the car. Mainly, wheels, Techart front and rear, and GT2 sides.

The wheels are 19" Work Brombracher. They look great, so went to install them today, and found out that the TPMS sensors would not fit the Work wheels

Apparently, the valve stem of the OE wheels are "straight", whereas the Work wheels have an "L" shaped valve stem (due to the lip). So there is a fitment issue of the sensor. They could have installed the wheels as is, but I would get the dreaded TPMS System Inactive error, and it would bug the hell out of me to have that. So now, I am back to my OE wheels, and awaiting an answer from the vendor who I purchased the wheels from (He's a good guy, and has been helpful before, so I hope we can get this sorted out).

Do you guys have any idea how I could go about this problem? Is there any way to add the TPMS sensor?

I would not add any of the exterior mods, unless I get these wheels on first.

Its has been a bittersweet weekend. I was really looking forward to slapping on the wheels today.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

congratulations on the car. Did you purchase the wheels here in Dubai or overseas. Maybe a visit to Alex Renner might be worthwhile to get some knowledgeable info.

I was in the market for some new wheels, but it is a real issue at the Porsche workshop where they are adamant it will invalidate the WHOLE warranty !!. Unreal, but sadly very true !.

Rgds.

yyzC4s - please contact Eric N. at Supreme Power Parts and he can help you with the way they made my TPMS work. There are two ways to make it work. You can drill a hole in the center of the wheel and thread a air valve/stem there and mount the TPMS sensor on that valve or you can mount it the way Eric did mine. Here is the pic he sent me. I can't show you mine currently as it would be too much trouble to remove my tire and take and picture and remount

I hope that helps and Eric can answer your questions. Just look him up on the web. Supreme Power Parts. I do not know if I can post a website that is not a sponsor so I won't.

Are you serious about the warranty issues? Any experience?

I believe you can put an L shaped valve stem extension on the tpms.

Hi,

yeah very serious. My car was in for a routine service and i casually mentioned to the service advisor i was going to put aftermarket wheels on. He said it would invalidate the warranty !!.

I asked him to check with the manager at the service centre which he did and i got the same reply.

Very frustrating indeed.

I would be very interested to hear your feedback if you go and ask the same question.

Good luck.

That is common in the Golf and a lot of other countries, it is very sad and stupid that a dealership would make such statment as they will benefit from the warranty work just as much as the client does. They make it seem like a crime to have repairs done or change out any parts on your vehicle regardless of make and model.

Spoke to my service advisor today, and it seems that they are pretty strict about it here.
But I did tell him that it is pretty stupid if I put on some wheels and bring in the car for a defected window switch. he said, in such cases, they do the repair, and wait for an approval from Porsche in Germany that they wil get reimbursed for warranty work. Once they get the go ahead, we can pick up the car. If we want the car earlier, we have to give in a security deposit (in the amount of the work done). So if Porsche AG decline the warranty work, we're SOL. Pretty stupid I feel.
Apparently, as soon as a car comes in with modifications (of any sort - outside of Porsche tequipment, etc), they are instructed to take photos, and send the same to Porsche AG. The car comes as "blocked" after that for warranty repairs.

I think this will definitely void your entire warranty, it changes the VTG, it chages the drag, it might cause the tires to blow up... did i miss anything else???
