New 997 turbo...doesn't feel as fast as my m6 part2
#16
I had a leak on the intake plenum and did not have any engine lights go on but the car would not boost above a certain level. I can not remember but I believe it would not boost over 10psi and eventually the car went into limp mode. I was running some 1/4 mile runs and my friend's car beat me when I should have smoked his car. My car is tuned but sounds like a similiar problem. We beat new m5 with bone stock 996 turbo's with room to spare.

I took the car out for a drive during lunch. What I noticed today was that after pulling out of the neighbor hood the car easily went to 13 psi, but that only lasted for a couple of minutes. Definitely felt the torque even at 13psi. After it was completely warmed up...it would not go above 9psi and sometimes no boost or would go to 9psi and then immediately half of that. Could it be heatsoak. I know some of this is just more of what we already know...but just thought it was interesting as to how it performed when i first took it out. If there is anyone on the north side of town...and they are up for it...i could bring the car to them so they could drive it to get their opinion. I will be scheduling some time over at porsche west. Thanks for all of your help.

its not heat soak, its a leak. Luckily its easy to diganose and fix, I would also do a lookover the intercooler hoses, intake attachment pieces etc. as the culprit might be staring you in the face.

Great...i'm feeling alittle relieved that I may not be crazy.lol If anyone would be willing to drive just to make sure...that would be great. That way i can fully relax.

definetly a leak. As long as you are moving the intercoolers will cool the exhaust. If you could find some high octane fuel I might try that and see what happens. Are you using good high octane fuel. Bad fuel or low octane fuel could cause the car to dial back the boost and timing. if you could let the car get to empty and then put some ms109 in the car and see what happens. But at this point a good porsche dealer could check the car for leaks.

Just take the car to the dealer, then you can relax.

Got it to the dealer this morning. Hopefully I will hear something soon. Confirmed again on the way to the dealer that the car is not right. I tried to be more consistent while testing this. Got on the freeway, put it in 6 gear at 75mph with sport on(engine still cool), floored it and the boost would go up to about 13-14psi and stay there for several seconds. Ten minutes later and every five minutes after that, tried the same thing and it would boost to less than 9psi and then almost immediately drop to 4psi. Thanks for all of your help

I got a call from the dealer late this afternoon. They told me that the boost control unit was out and it would be ready thursday. I'm really excited about seeing what the car really should feel like. It's like I haven't even driven a turbo yet. lol
On a side note...i can't help but think of the poor guy that had the car before me and how long he drove it like that. Maybe he knew.....but even worse...maybe he didn't and thought it was normal.
Thanks for all of your help!

Had a friend trade his M6 yesterday for a turbo. He said the M6 was not even in the same league as the turbo. I already knew that. Get em to reflash the ECU while they have the car. You haven't even scratched the surface yet!
