2010 GT3 vs current turbo
#19
My 2 cents, for fun: The best of both worlds to me is a modded Turbo plus a 996 GT3, for same price as a GT2.
As great as a GT2 is, it's still a turbo engine. Meaning lag and non-linear response.
As great as a GT3 is, it is underpowered for its weight. In addition, those objective numbers are achieved driving the car at 12000 rpm . Meaning, for the track and objectively, no doubt it has few equals as you drive at high rpm constantly; for the street and subjectively, it is IMO severely underpowered compared to other top class sports cars. I've driven the F430 and even that amazing car feels underpowered when driven back to back with the Turbo. I had it up to plus 5000 rpm my whole drive and was still wondering what happens to the torque.
As soft and wimpy the stock Turbo is, with simple Bilstein and exhaust mods like Cargraphic, the Turbo could turn into an incomparable daily driver; agile, furious, beautiful sounding, and yet... still "comfortable," and yet... not a car to be taken lightly at the track.
So bottom line, you need both Turbo and GT3! One for street, one for track.

The new Gt3 looks AMAZING!!!!!!! I am getting weak just looking at it. Besides being beautiful looking the sound is awesome, the power upgrade is sufficient for what the car is designed to do , no DFI , no PDK .. it's plays no games . It looks like a pure knarly go cart .
Look at this . Yikes!!!!

At 2000 rpm the 997.1 Turbo has 680Nm torque, the 997.2 GT3 has 308Nm torque
So on public roads the Turbo's power is FAR more usable! On the track of course you can rev the hell out of the GT3 and the two cars then become comparable.

Yeah, if you dont get some momentum in the GT3. you're toast. And then even if you do, you had better shift your butt off to keep it in the optimal power band. No doubt the TT is a far better road car.

Alex, I believe you're misreading the graph.

It's not either/or -it's BOTH .
Both cars offer what it takes to have it all . We all own the Turbo .
The Gt3 would compiment it by offering a go kart , seamless , smooth throttle. highly interractive , growling , nimble car. Plus the recent comfort features like the OEM lift and driver amenities offers a more street friendly car too .
It's absence of the PDK and DFI plus it's retention of the Gt1 block make this car a modern Porsche couples with traditonal elements .
There no need to compare it to the Turbo .
But to add it .. would be bliss.

It is defiantly a little biased considering this thread is in the Turbo section.
An easy comparison, but a tough choice:
GT3:
Hard-core, thrilling, focused, loud, precise, nimble.....
Turbo:
Luxurious (For a Porsche), soft-er, horsepower beast, a lot more of a street driver......
Now for the choice:
Would I want a car that I would drive less, but probably enjoy more (GT3), or a car that I would drive a lot more (trips, runs, etc.) and use a lot more.
As a 997S owner, I have been looking to upgrade. I came down to these two, and for the past month I have been switching back and forth as I know their differences, but I cannot workout which one I would want.
If you could help me out on what you would recommend, here's my situation:
-Would not be a daily driver
-Used to make quick and fun runs to places,
-Maybe a few times a month it would substitute my daily driver (Merc S-Class).
As I eventually want sell my Corvette and purchase a used Ferrari, and if I bought the GT3 I would have two very unusable sports cars so.....
How much more unusable is the GT3 to the Turbo?
Another thing that motivates me for the GT3 is its a smarter buy money wise (less depreciation, cheaper price)
Please excuse me unloading on you on my first post, I got here by Googling "GT3 vs Turbo" which lead me to this thread which then lead me to signing up here.
Thanks
John

i think they are two different cars. bottom line, i would evaluate how much time you want to track the car and/or if you want to a monster for the streets. good luck either way. can't go wrong with either.
do you guys think either will appreciate once the new Obama gas laws kick on in 2015? i don't see a 911 getting 35mpg any time soon.

Lets see some pics of the Turbo!
What's the colors combo?
And what colors did you order for the GT3?
