Burned Rotor

I took my car in for 30,000 KM servicing (about 18,500 miles). I also asked for a brake change since this would be the first. The guy calls me up later and says my 2 front rotors need to be changed due to burning. I asked how I would burn a pair of rotors since I dont track. He said even aggressive road driving could lead to burned rotors. He confirmed that I had still not worn out the pads completely , so no metal to metal contact. I allowed him to change it but asked to see the rotors when I pick it up.

He said the ring (seen in the image below) is the burn mark and the consequence would be the rotor breaking since it is now brittle. I was not quite satisfied and felt a little uneasy but not wanting to make a scene simply took pics and left.

Any comments guys?

Thanks

Seems quite odd that its on both rotors. Was this warranted by Porsche?

Looks like my rotors after a good canyon run. I don't think for a minute your rotors needed to be changed. I hope you didn't pay for the new rotors.

I did have to pay!

Apparently they were brittle enough to break. I gave it a solid knock with my fist/knuckles but it did not seem brittle.

Wow sorry you had to pay. I think they took advantage of you. If there was no cracking near the cross drilled holes, I see no need to change out rotors. I hope they changed your pads at the same time.

I would suggest to take this up with Porsche directly or at the very least, speak to the gen mgr of the dealership. Good luck!

You might have also got some material or something in the pads which would cause it to scorn like that.
