I'm not an attorney, but this may help..

From the NJ Motor Vehicle Commission's website: 39:4–97.2 Driving in an unsafe manner (points only for third or subsequent offense within five years of most recent 39:4-97.2 conviction) - 4 Points

From what I understand, you can plead guilty to this ''unsafe driving'' charge and pay a fine, but get no points. They charge you a $250 court fee or something. Thing is, if I understand this correctly, if you get a third ticket within 5 years of taking this deal, the 4 points that the unsafe driving charge carries are applied to your license. So, it's not a total out. Plus, you can only use this deal once every so many years. It may be once every 5 years.

I don't know if you use this with a 5 point offense, though. It's worth looking into, however. Call the township's courthouse and ask about it.

Good luck.

This is generally right. However, once you are going more than 15-20 over the limit, you are HIGHLY unlikely to get Unsafe Operation. To clarify Unsafe Operation, you are allowed to take it 2 times every 5 years. It carries with it a $200 fine, $250 surcharge and $33 court fee (may be higher now, as I dealt with this a few years ago) - so somewhere in the $500 range - but no points. 80% of people in court get this, and it is a huge cash cow, but they usually reserve this to minor offenses like careless driving and minor speeding.

I think you can expect to get away with a 2 point ticket and about $150 fine, and be happy given your speed. I didn't use a lawyer for my 4-point 28mph over ticket (knocked to 2), but I probably would in your shoes, because a conviction at 30mph+ over the speed limit generally entails license suspension.

Cool

what about going on probation for 3, 6, or eeven 9 months? it is a possible outcome that my lawyers is favoring for me right now... if you don't have any traffic ticket IN the juridiction ( but it is OK in other juridictions ) for the time of the probation, then your ticket will be dismissed ( or so I was told...)..otherwise, the V1 coupled with trapster.com and really good eyes front, rear and sideway, are your best friends... once I just saw the tip of the cop helmet above a 3 feet wall, he was with his laser behind the wall at a highway entrance... gee, I never hit the brakes so hard...

Another reason i have zero interest in cali. Jersey isn't much better though once you hit 100 if they want to throw the book at you they will. Lawyer is worth it considering you are in the 5 point range.

Agreed. 100 is a "magic" number of sorts. No way would I not hire an attorney for something like this. Yet, some would say "save your money" the cars cost upwards of 150K but i'm gonna worry about saving a few hundred bucks on a lawyer? Please.

Not being cute... but who don't you guys get a Laser Jammer Radar Detector like the escort 9500ci installed?
Then they cannot get you with laser and you have a much better chance with Radar?
I am asking because I feel pretty safe with the escort 9500ci... am I missing something or being overconfident?
Thanks in advance.

I've talked to several attorneys and its not the money I am concerned with, it's the competency. They all seem to say the same thing, yes we can avoid the points, but I am basically flying blind on this one.

And that's why you came here - hopefully someone can refer you to a good lawyer with a track record for handling things like this in this jurisdiction.
