Crazy idea... removing my passenger seat for my dog?
#18
and tilting the seat back is a joke, the dog is about 150lbs or 70 kilos at the moment... and he is really tall and skinny, so that weight makes him a lot bigger than you would realize. On his hind legs with his paws on a mans shoulders his head is about 6' high...

I think it would be great idea to get your beloved pet out of his cage all day. That is pretty unimaginable for a large 14 month old dog to be couped up like that.
But on the other hand, taking the seat out of your TT is not a very practical idea. Once you take out your passenger seat, you have completely negated the possibility of giving anyone a ride. Even though you say you don't do this often, things could change for you in the future. The total functionality of your TT will be hampered once you take out that seat.
As much as you don't want to hear this, given all of your financial constraints regarding having multiple cars, I would humbly suggest you sell your TT and get another car that you can equally love, but also allows room for your dog. Perhaps a Cayenne TT?
best of luck.

If that were my situation, I would do it. There are good dog harnesses that are designed for seat belt attachment which you could anchor from the back seat. That way in the event of an accident the dog does not become 150 lbs of airborne death towards you! I know well the paid dog walker ordeal and would love to have my dogs with me at work...

Since you love your dog so much,i wouldn't suggest to get rid of the dog.
However,You can probably trade in your tt for a bigger car.
A cayenne TT sounds more practical to you.
If you take out one front seat and put your large dog there, most likely someone would take a pic of your tt sooner or later, and put it on internet.
You will become a joke by then. You don't want to be the owner of this porsche, right?

dog won't fit
I don't think that dog will not fit in a cayenne, at least not comfortably. I have two Rhodisian Ridgebacks and they're nearly too tall for my Cayenne - cramped enough they'll never take a ride in it. (but I've always had a suv/truck for my boys). A dane is much taller. Dog seatbelts - GTFOOH!! Most dogs love to stick their heads out the window and enjoy the ride as much as we do.

If the Cayenne weren't fugly, that might be an option.
Also the car still has a back seat if I ever need to put someone in there in an emergency, actually two back seats, not to mention the front one isn't going to be lost in the ether, I can always throw it back in if my situation changes.
I was thinking that a harness anchored to the back is likely what I'd do.
I'm going to bring some tools with me to work tomorrow and see how involved taking the seat out is during lunch.
I've decided to do it, it's just a matter of whether or not he will actually fit in the car AFTER the fact that the seat is out.... time will tell
Also as far as pictures go, I'll post plenty of them myself, so I'm not so worried about people mocking me online. I can assure you that my situation is hardly a bad one to be in...

as far as reclining the seat and getting a heavy duty cover, you guys just aren't understanding the scale of the dog... even with the seat ALREADY OUT he is going to be a bit cramped in the car. If you actually saw the dog you would realize that keeping the seat in just isn't possible, and even with it out, it's still a bit of a reach.

I understand everyones aversion to keeping him in a cage, but it's just the way it has to be with large dogs. If you ask ANY breeder or trainer or anyone that has ever had a large dog, crate training is the ONLY way to raise them. but i'm not looking to turn this thread into a discussion about animal ethics.

AJ - I have a pitbull and have tried having him in the car, its almost impossible, that being said, a great dane is HUGE and I think your really not using your head if your down to taking out the front seat. Seriously, you live in a beautiful manhattan high rise, drive a $100+ car, pay for parking what some pay for their rent.... please, buy a POS pickup and call it a day. You said you pay about $100 to have your dog walked weekly, thats almost the cost of the second parking space, plus I am sure you can work some deal with the lot attendants for the second spot. I know I did when I lived in the city.
Lastly, I crate trained my dog as well, but a 20 min walk a day is still not enough. Get a beater and take him to work with you, or give the dog away to someone who can accommodate the tough demands of owning a Great dane.
