Give me a f ing break. I have a bernese mountain dog. He has never seen a cage. Because you ask. I have trained him. Your apartment in NYC is cage already for a dog of that size. Get rid of the dog, and find a good home with a backyard and have the new owner actually take the dog on walks. Leave the PORSCHE alone!!!!!!!!

The seat will recline nearly flat, but if that is not enough you need a different car, plain and simple. I would suggest a domestic SUV, I'm sure there are great deals to be had. The other thing, have you considered moving out of the city? Keep us posted.

I'm glad you decided to do it. It's a car...who cares. You can always put the seat back in.

I had the same dilemma with my dog years ago. I decided I couldn't stand leaving her in a crate either and started taking her to work every day. Those were such wonderful years. I really miss it.

Now I'm in a new building that won't allow dogs so the pooch is back at home again but the wife and kids are around to keep her company now.

The worst was when I had to stop taking her to work...she would bum rush the door and couldn't understand why she wasn't allowed to come any longer...

You won't regret it...

Take the seat out and go for it!! If you need to give a ride to someone they can sit in the back seat and have lots of leg room.

i would get a beater but if not at all possible for you then remove seat, get a harness for him and go for it. would love to be able to bring my newfoundland to work. Leaving a great dane in his crate all day is not a great option.

transporting your puppy

Truly - call Cheech at Rennwerke - he is great! and if anyone can come up with a solution for your dog seat dilemma, its him. He is n Elmsford, right off the saw mill -- just 30 minutes from midtown up the WSH.

Dogs come first in our home! But luckily, mine all fit in my TT. We have harnesses, seat covers and a whole lot of fun!

Good luck!

I feel that every situation you have presented is unfair to the animal .

1) The cage at home - A 20 minute walk followed by 8 hours of being in a cage is not in the best interest of the dog.

2) Removing your seat - not only ruins the car but places a very large dog in a cramped and perhaps even unsafe setting .

This is an example of being an unfit dog owner .

1) You could have adopted or bought ANY dog .. but nope .. you pick one the size of a horse and can't accomodate it.

2) You could have bought ANY car .. but nope .. you pick the 997tt (which you like) that this dog whom you claim to cherish can't fit in .

3) You could have lived in Brooklyn .. to accomdate the dog .. but you don't .

You picked the car you like . the place you like . the dog you like and when it doesn't work out you cry wolf ?

You may think that yoir post is lined with great intentions but I am seeing a lot of selfishness .

I don't have a dog BTW . I respect the animals enough to accept that they just don't fit into my lifestyle.

I agree- sounds very unfair( and unhealty) for a dog of that size to be in a city. He needs open space.Get a dog that is more appropriate.
Most posts here are very polite-- they are presuming you will see common sense.
I do have a dog and she loves Porsche's. She has ridden in the car since a pup ( 16 y.o) and lines up to ride in any Porsche that we have owned( and some borrowed ) .

Just anohter kind FYI:

You should check your local laws (or insurance company) regarding removing front passenger seat. One of my
friends removed his front seat(to save weight for track use),and he got a ticket for illegal modification.

It could be road illegal in some states believe it or not.

You might also need a safety device such as a dog seatbelt or something to keep him safe.

Removing one front seat is probably not a good long term slolution. The good thing is that you can always put it back once you get a better solution for it.

Anyways, do whatever that would work for you and good luck!

Buy a GT2 and you will not have to remove the seat and your dog will like the GT2 much better than a TT. My dog does!

Taking out the seats is a creative solution, but your probably going to get a seatbelt or airbag warning light that will be on constantly after that. I have two what I thought were large dogs, 80lbs, but I guess they’re not so big after all. With work some days they would have to sit in the house all day and I would have to come home to let them out. I came up with the solution for those days of getting a security camera system installed as well as an automated dog door that detects sensors on their collars. This way if they need to go out they can and I can keep an eye on them via the net. I’m not in the city though. They mostly just sleep on the bed all day until I get home, then they get to play and walk. I wouldn’t mind their carefree lives some days, and isn’t exactly cruel. They don’t chew anything up or make a mess, they keep the house safe. It’s a larger house that they can run around in if they want but they choose to sleep and I cant blame them. Maybe trade in the 997 for a cayenne turbo S. It's plenty fast and you wont have to take seats out.

Glad you are doing it. One of my repair guys has two great dane's that he carries around with him in a small SUV where he has taken the entire back seat out and covered up all the sharp bits with carpet. They freaking love it. Safe who knows but the dogs are happy.

Also great danes are kind of lazy dogs they do surprisingly well in apartments, and only require short walks given there size.

hmm you wouldn't park your car in 55 water street would you? i think i may have seen your car in the lot. I keep my 911 c4s there and my range rover. I have a dog as well and though a much smaller one.

really keeping 2 cars isnt really a bad idea, i keep 2 because my son isnt fitting in my porsche (20m old) and after my dog threw up in the porsche i bought the range rover. esp since you're paying 100 a week for a dog walker (which is pretty good i'm paying close to 200) it would really make sense plus most garages will give you a discount on the second car.

no matter how well behaved your dog is he will slobber and scratch up the leather pretty badly, plus sitting in the back seat as a passenger is just a non starter for me.

keeping a nice car in nyc sucks... but it's also a perfect cety to keep one in. I'll never leave NYC to live in the burbs again.

I lived in the city for 5 years, awesome time it was during my mid 20's and I never thought I would move out to the burbs again, however, after buying a house for and having a yard, it kind of feels more relaxing, and makes it much easier to have a dog.
