Surfeit of 2008 GT2's still for sale
Folks-
There are 15 on the Porsche website (although that site can be wrong), most of which still have "new" miles on them. I have found another 12 low mileage (under 4K) GT2s by looking at dealer's web sites, that are not listed on the official site. Was it just too high a price at the wrong time in the economy? I guess I answered my own question. Wonder what will happen to these cars, as discounting seems to have gone as far as it can on these wonderful beasts.

IMO, the price was too high period. Yah it's fast, but there's a lot other choices at $200k.

it is a very niche market car, it wasn't the MSRP that had people turned off, it was the premium most dealers were trying to get on top of it. The the poop hit the fan and most were unsold. Its sad really, the car is just amazing, but I would not want it as a DD.
When I ordered my 09 T there was a black GT2 sitting on the floor and they were basically willing to give it to me, when I took delivery of my T some 8 months later, it was still there. Most guys do not have the skill to own and operate that car. Thankfully, most realize that and don't buy them.
If you live to track, there is nothing else to own. If you have an 8 car garage, I would fill one space with a GT2. If you are the typical wannabe and put your Great Dane in your car, you should own one LOL

Porsche made the same mistake with the 997GT2 as the 996GT2. Priced to high in relation to the Turbo/GT3. At least the 996GT2 had 1 good sales year in 2002 then the 996 GT3 was coming and sales nose dived. I sold my 2005 GT3 after 4 years and took a 50% hit, but a lot of smiles. 996GT2's are taking a app 67% hit from a $200,000 price.

430's in the tank
On of my buddies just picked up a used 2008 F430 spider with 800 miles for $169k. The seller was desperate to unload it. Had been for sale for 5 months. If you have the $$, great deals are out there.

I think they can be had in the 150s all day long right now. I actually made an extreme low ball offer on one recently, we'll see if they change their tune in a couple of months.

I'd rather see expensive cars that aren't sitting on lots waiting to be sold. Those are more rare than the ones that are. All considering, this is not a failure for the GT2, just bad timing.
I still agree that they are priced way too high though. But the reason they are so high is because guys will pimp out a TT coupe or cab with options until it's 160-180k on a regular basis, so they took it a notch higher.

The economy is just bad, period.
Even Scuderias have massively dropped from their peaks, and F430s and Lambos are bargain priced everywhere you look.
The GT2 is a phenomenal car. You guys that haven't driven one do not know what you're missing.
Sure I paid sticker on my car and lost some money. But I also know that this car will be a collectible one day. And the depreciation hit for now is comparable to other high end cars. If economic conditions were better, the values on these cars would be very different. IF you have the money and some driver skill, I suggest you buy one.
As for other choices at 200K, honestly, apples for apples, I can't think of any really. At least for me.
I drove the new R8 5.2 and the LP560, those are very, very different cars.
Even if Porsche makes another GT2, which may be doubtful given the way the company is headed... it will likely be on the new watered down A91 engine platform with its "Integrated dry sump" aka wet sump.
Sorry, BUT NO THANKS

I think that both the 996 GT2 and the 997 GT2, which are not very different in terms of driving experience, no matter what the Porsche sales drones try and tell you, will become valuable cars over time.
Look at the 993 Turbo, last of the air-cooled turbos, hand-built, beautiful design, but very dated technology. They now command overly-optimistic prices.
I think that both the 996 and 997 GT2s will go back up in price as rarity increases. They are excellent driving cars, provided you know how to drive a 911 and having been doing so for years - not for the faint of heart.
