Escort 9500ci sound level

I had the Escort 9500ci installed today. I've 3 prior units on different cars and all worked decently. In this particular unit the volume is quite low in certain settings- going very fast with the music on high. The other units had a high pitched beep that was easily heard. This unit is more of lower pitched tone that is barely noticible. Any suggestions.

Where did they mount the speaker?

I dramatically increased the sound level of my 9500ci in my 997TT by separating the the amplifier from the box and using the factory's center speaker in the dash. The speaker is of a different impedance and thus sounds a lot louder than the Passport's powered speaker box.

The little amp was mounted under the "wart" stopwatch and it's speaker wires run a few inches forward to the center speaker. You can just see the little custom amp mount that fits/slides into the dash material at the back of the hole. The amp is at the bottom of that assembly.

I also seem to have solved the 'engine whine" issue some owners and I have had.

engine whine?

can some explain the engine whine?
recently got the 9500ci installed in my 997. i notice a whine/noise potentially coming from the units speaker when in gear (reverse/drive), but only when moving. at a dead standstill this whine stops, starts again even at creeping speeds not very loud, but starting to get under my skin
thanks
