I know it might have been previous discussion about that but I was wondering why most 997TT (07-09) current or potential owners seem to prefer Manual instead of the Tiptronic.

I can even see that from 997TT sales of Manual vs Tiptronic.

It seems that the manual cars sell much faster.

I have never driven the Tip.

Any opinions?

 

I can't imagine driving such an awesome car and doing it with a slushbox. That seems almost criminal.

If you don't have the "man" pedal, you might as well just go buy an Accord. Pretty much the same driving experience.

I just traded out of a 996tt TIP to a 997tt 6 Speed.
The clutch & gearbox in the 997tt feels much improved to me.
It is possible that the 996tt transmission complete with 2nd gear issues steered people like me into the TIP and now I'm back to an improved feeling 6 speed. Just an opinion, I don't know what tech. differences 996tt to 997tt exist.

Its a sports car and I dont understand why they would even offer an automaic. I would also never own PDK as long as a true manual was faster. I dont care if the PDK is faster because when stick was fastetr than automatic people did not buy more sticks on most cars. PDK while nice is so much more boring to drive.

 

The tip is just boring!

 

I wouldn't sell the TIP short, for one thing its quick, probably quicker than the stick to 100, you don't lose boost, slip clutches, over rev and you can brake boost. Notice that the tips are generally higher mileage, what does that tell you. If you live in heavy traffic they are the ride you will use when you might have left a stick parked.
If anyone thinks Tips are slow, talk to Black Horse Turbo about performance, he is one of the fastest turbos out there. For anyone who does a test drive and forms an opinion remember there is a learning curve to getting the best out of a tip. Really.
There is also a TCU tune if you want more.
So gentlemen, I would say its not always a clear choice.
