EVT900 Clubsport- Part 3 - Dyno tests - 3.8L GT35's Full Engine Build - TIPTRONIC

Since the other two threads which were highlighting this build were closed, here is the third one. Hopefully this one can stay on topic. Since our last post, the engine has been installed into our company 997TT for testing. We have been breaking the engine in and made a few lower boost, low RPM power pulls this evening. The power results are more than expected and this engine is going to be stout. Here are the numbers from tonight's engine break in power tests.

Rev limit: 6300 RPM
Max Boost: 22.5 PSI
Low Timing

AWHP: 792 @ ~6000 RPMS
AWTQ: 765 @ ~4900 RPMS

This engine is going to have a very broad power / tq curve even with the GT35 turbos. The combination of the cams, heads, valves, were all developed together to work with the 3.8L and the rest of the turbo system. We will be doing some more testing throughout the weekend before we unleash the beast on the road and the track next week.

For those who did not see the other threads, this project is being built for a very good customer of ours in Bahrain who has many EVOMS prepared Porsche cars. Back in 2002, we built this client a 996TT engine with strengthened internals. This was our first 996TT engine that we built and 7 years later, it is still going strong. We have also built this customer a 700 HP 996TT GT2 and a 700 HP 997TT GT2.

Engine Details:
  • EVOMS Built 3.8L Piston and Cylinder Conversion
  • EVOMS Spec Carrillo connecting rods
  • EVOMS 12mm head stud conversion
  • EVOMS CNC ported cylinder heads w/ larger intake and exhaust valves
  • EVOMS Clubsport intake and exhaust Camshafts
  • EVOMS Clubsport GT35 turbo system w/ external wastegates
  • EVOMS Clubsport intercoolers
  • Balanced rotating assembly

Thank you for the comments. I will post the dyno graph and details after we get the engine broken in and we get the tuning sorted.

Keep in mind that this is the first GT35 setup that we have done on the 997TT platform and we have a completely new fuel system in the car. The 997TT fuel system and OEM fuel control is all regulated through the ECU. The OEM twin pump system has been replaced with twin Bosch 044 pumps located inside the tank. We are also running 83 lb injectors and a different fuel pressure regulation system. It will take a little while to get the fueling dialed in and get the car tuned. The way the car sits now, we have only made 2 files for the ECU to correct for the large fuel injectors. The engine is running VERY rich at this point and we cannot fine tune the fuel delivery until the engine seals up after the rings seat. More results will follow.

Nice work Todd/John.

Did you guys do cams on this setup?

Also any gains with the new ypipe setup?

You guys work quick .... I wish my car's progress would move as fast.

Now lets see some big numbers.

Once again great work

Question , i see that you have the blwo off valves on the Y pipe ,are you getting part throtlle issues with them located there ? since they are so0 close to the MAF i know it ussualy cuases part throttle modulation issues , and it cuases the car to hic up .

reason im asking cuase im having some of those issues , i may try and put in 3 psi springs in the tials and see if its not just the turbos surging due to heavy blow off springs, ( which i dont know what psi are in there )

Thanks Jags. We are running our cams which are specific for the 997TT. Yours will be a monster as well.

To me the peak numbers don't really tell the whole story. What is important (in my opinion) is a useable power range with a flat TQ delivery and smooth power delivery. This one right now, without any fine tuning has a flat TQ curve and a very useable power curve. I will highlight this in more detail once we get further along in the tuning. Thanks!

So far no problems with part throttle. We are still very early in the tuning process. We are not going to be running MAF sensors on this setup. We can tune the ECU to disregard the MAF signals and the fuel delivery / drivability is actually as good as the OEM tuning with the MAF sensors. We have done this on the 996TT as well while maintaining the ABS and PSM. This prevents a bunch of the part throttle issues when running blow off valves.

Todd

What benefits would you see with doing the same thing with my car?

Jag

BTW - you my want to add the cams in the build statement in the first post.
