Roll Bar in a 997 Turbo
#2
Not the best angle to see, I put in the GMG roll bar, schroth harnesses, and Cobra SuzukaS seats.
You cant use harnesses without replacing the stock adaptive seats unless you have the GT3 or GT2 seats.
I got the SuzukaS because they provide a lot more thigh support than either one of those two seats and it really helped to keep my legs in place through the turns.
Harnesses make a huge difference when braking, best upgrade to really feel the car and also improve your driving.
I'm taking out the roll-bar in two weeks and I'll be selling the seats as I'm going to be running the Exige on the track next year, if you are interested in either let me know.
Not the best angle, but didnt have any other interior photos.

here is the way it goes...harness is not safe without proper seat with harness eyeholes...harness and proper seat is not safe without roll over protection...so you need all three or staying stock is safer...putting a harness bar and racing seats only, will hold you erect in the seat and in a roll over will likely cause your death

I agree, is a bolt in roll bar such as the GMG, considered safe in the event of a roll over? I have a buddy who had a proper cage built for his GTR, with all points welded to reinforced plates. I do not want to go that far with my car. But, he has some pretty strong arguments against bolt ins. I do not want to
think I am safe and not be.

while the GMG, DAS, Tequipment bars are not as ideal as a cage and typically not permitted in race classes they are much more practical in a street car and will protect you in a roll over...certainly not to the degree a complete cage would but I have seen some pretty violent track incidents that included roll overs in p-cars that only had the bolt in roll bar (with proper seats and harness) and so far the drivers have all walked away

A roll-bar equipped car is safer than a non-roll bar equipped car.
A full cage is safer with the driver properly restrained and wearing a helmet than a roll-bar car. However it is completely UNSAFE to drive on the street without harness or a helmet, hence this is for a track-car only.
Harness bar is less safe than a car with no equipment because the harness bar is used in conjuction with a race seat. Unlike street seats which have adjustable backs that can collapse if the car rolls over, race shell seats do not have adjustable backs and so do not collapse if a car rolls over. This means the driver remains in a prone position in case of a roll-over and increases the likelihood that damage can occur.
For a street / track car get a roll bar.
For a track only car get a full cage if possible or a roll bar.
Never get the harness bar.

I am thinking of getting some 996 gt3 seats with harness and GMG roll bar. This should meet all of your recommendations. Right?
I appreciate all the input. Man, I am putting a lot money into this turbo, but, what the hell it will be a blast on the track. Plus I have a young family and safety is paramount, especially the way I drive.

same setup that I have...to me very comfortable and secure...Scroth makes a nice harness that is designed for the GT3 seats and has the correct ends on the lap belts for easy install...this is an expiration year so make sure you get belts that are good for 4-5 years

Great to hear, Sparco is the brand of harness GMG has, will ask about the others. Any experience with Sparco?
Will I have to have a bolt put in on drivers side?
