HELP with Bilsteins!!!

Wow, I've had a spring brake before, but never seen a stock fail like this. This stuff happens with aftermarket parts, its part of the game. You think your doing an upgrade and bang you could have had a real problem at high speed. Something that is suppose to be fun, turn out to be headache. Now the blame game begins. Good luck.

Man this sort of stuff along with the nonsense on the drop links is really making me nervous about the more recent quality issues with them

OE is much less likely to fail than after market. I've spent thousands on aftermarket mods to see failure and bad design. If you don't want to play the mod game your better off in most cases with OE. Don't get me wrong its fun to mod the cars to perform better, just know it comes with headaches.

Funny I didn't see this thread before. I had a JIC shock shear right apart, like you right after the install so it appears to have been a metallurgy issue. The other three have been fine after 2+ years.
JIC replaced under warranty, although it was a hassle.....as customer service was not high on JIC's priority list.

Man MS S3-R, I hear EXACTLY what you're saying! I have modded every single performance car I've ever owned and 100% of the time have thought to myself, "Wow...the car is more fun to drive, but not THAT much more." In other words, I've never REALLY thought the increased "fun-factor" justified the expense of the mods. I SWORE to myself that I would NOT mod my 911 in any fashion (because the costs to do so are pretty incredible compared to other vehicles), and I already broke that promise! ha! I don't really consider the P40's a mod, as they don't alter the mechanics of the car in any way. Now with this, I'm truly terrified to do anything else to the car! My Porsche tech has already told me Bilstein won't take responsibility for the break, so I'm biting my nails in anticipation to see what my vendor does. The tech has been out to my house once already ($125 for one hour), if he comes back to take the shock off and ship back to vendor, that's another $125, plus my shipping costs for Bilstein back to vendor, plus the time the car is down (and I can't drive it)...I'm just hoping this doesn't turn into a nightmare!

"My Porsche tech has already told me Bilstein won't take responsibility for the break..."
Sounded to me like Bilstein denied warranty claim...

Wow -- I just saw the thread . Lately I spend more time in the 997 folder. I am shocked by the photos . One of my Bilstein struts was defective but nothing like what you showed . In fact the car's computer warned me and Bilstein replaced it . In fact i was not charged a cent and was placed in a loaner car until the part arrived too. Mine was just a simple electronic fault but yours is a rupture . Eeeesh. I'm glad you are ok

My understanding of the OP post is that his installer "assumes" that Bilstein will not take fault on this issue and will probably state installer error. By reading the post you are referring to, the damaged coilover hasn't even been removed or shipped back to the vendor inwhich will be shipped to Bilstein to investigate. As of the last post by the OP, we don't have any clue if the vendor or Bilstein has denied any warranty claims so lets wait and see what happens. Either way, I hope this is taken care in a timely and fair manner for the OP.

Yes, I hope the OP will be able to recieve full reimbursement for ALL costs associated for what is obviously a defective product. I'm just scratching my head as to why a Porsche tech would be so quick to claim that Bilstein will not take responsibility.

Hey guys, been out of town for the past week. Sorry for the slight confusion...a couple of you are correct...it is simply my tech's opinion that Bilstein will not take responsibility...he was just stating his past experience with a majority of AFTERMARKET manufacturers. He wasn't picking on Bilstein in particular. The shock will come off the car in the next couple of days and be shipped back to AWE. They will then send to Bilstein to see about the warranty. The big bummer right now is that I've been told there are no more shocks in stock anywhere as all the major vendors were having "Christmas Sales" at the end of the year. So, no telling how long my car will sit. Personally, I have a feeling that Bilstein will cover this under warranty because it's such a rare thing...absolutely nobody I've spoken with has ever seen this happen. I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks for your support!
