It would seem very unlikely that if the government mandated certain additives out of Mobil 1, they are not going to let those same additives in other oils be imported. Make sense?

Could it have been the removal of the mandate? Thus allowing oil manufacturers to make their own decisions.

Otherwise, if it was mandate to remove those elements, then a Euro brand might just get through a loophole.

Can anyone provide a solid source that points to the + effects of having these elements in the oil?

No, but I've been assured by others that it is the case in several available European oils. In any event I've only used Porsche approved oil, so I'm not going to worry about it.

Most modern synthetics are good, and if you change them alot then any good synthetic is going to be good. Saying that I use Mobil and only Chevron gas.

BumWine is infamous around these parts
Mobil1 seriously sucks. Their 30 weights aren't made in the same factory as their 15w50 and 5w20 oils, and the 30 weights aren't true synthetics. This means 10w30, 5w30, etc. I have seen more motors fail via rod-knock using Mobil1 than with other 'high performance' oils. Do the research yourself and you'll find similar results on websites like Bob Is the Oil Guy. Its absolutely absurd how WELL marketing works. "But Porsche say they're the best!!" I've never read a single bad review on Castrol Syntec from people who actually do oil testing. IMO its second only to oils like Motul and Amsoil, both of which I hold in utmost regards. Porsche switching to Castrol from Mobil1 is a good step forward.

Sure, a manufacturer does engineer a motor to use an x-weight x-brand oil, but I let the tests of those oils speak louder than what a manufacturer recommends. Its not just engineering, but also marketing. If a manufacturer has a deal with Mobil1 for instance, Mobil1 is going to pay them to use their oil during R&D of a specific engine. My LS6 says MOBIL1 on the oil fill cap, and I only have used Castrol, Amsoil, or (when available) Motul, usually a 10w40.

Since people are also posting what kind of gas they prefer, I try to stay on a strict diet of 93 octane Shell. Chevron when the nearest Shell is out of range, in which case I only fill up a few gallons.
