cigarette lighter weak?

cigarette lighter weak?
My battery maintainer blew the fuse on the cigarette lighter. The dealer accused me of using the socket to charge my celly, saying "it's not meant for that, it can't take it". WTF, is the socket so weak it won't charge a cell phone? Has anyone else heard this?

I'd bump it to PCNA if they won't cover it. You could try to DIY, but if it is anything like the 996 or 955 Cayenne's lighter socket, it is a royal PITA to change...I could walk you through it, but better to have the dealer warranty do it.

His argument does not hold water as the "non smoker" packages use the same fuse rating as a cigarette lighter.

They *****ed but they took care of it under warranty. I was just surprized that the lighter socket wouldn't handle a cell phone.

It should...your service manager/dealership don't know what they are talking about. The same fuse is used in non smoker packages and can handle a battery charger, emergency air pump...it should easily handle a cell phone charger.

Cool. I'll try later. Thanks for the info.

Not 100% sure but I recall reading that the cigarette lighter outlet does have very weak amp rating. Cell phone is ok but for other things like the airpump, etc., the outlet in the right footwell is safer.
