How to properly shift from first to second during WOT

Hello all,

I am almost too embarassed to ask but I am having some issues with smoothly shifting from 1-2 during aggressive driving.

I hear/feel a slight thump/jerking while shifting into 2nd gear. Just doesn't feel very smooth.

I think I am letting out the clutch too fast?? or do I have an issue with tranny or engine mount?

Furthermore, I am just having a tough time letting out the clutch smoothly at the end - just feels like there is spring mechanism that forces the clutch out too fast.

I guess I am just used to driving american muscle cars that have different clutch engagement.

I would most greatly appreciate any advice on properly drving the turbo

1-2 shift is the most difficult in any car. The hydraulic-assist clutch is garbage and doesn't give any engagement feedback. Just sounds like you're coming off the clutch too fast. I still do it. Can't help it with that sucky clutch.

One (pricey) solution is to get the GT2 slave cylinder conversion. Will likely run anywhere from $1600-2000 for parts and labor, depending on where you get it done. I'd do it myself right this second, but unfortunately, I'm not made of money

turbo clutch w/ the hydraulic setup sucks, its hard to be consistent with it. if your tracking convert to gt2 / gt3 style and remove all that hardware.

Bonehead/gmoney - thank you for the info. I guess I just need to practice more. I have to admit that I had the car for only 2 months with less than hour driving time.

I didn't know if there was something mechanically wrong with the car or I am doing somthing wrong. I will see if I can ease off the clutch but some times the spring mechanism/weak ankles? doesn't allow for smooth WOT shifting.

Difference is they don't use hydraulics. Pedal effort is therefore much heavier, but feedback is supposedly heavenly (I haven't driven one, just what I've been told).

Oh! I may have to beg a drive in a GT3 just to check out the feel. Thanks.

Are you feeling any shifting issues, meaning, does the shifter feel like it is difficult to get into the 2nd gear gate? Or is it just that the car feels weird after you let off the clutch?

even though the pedal feel is better on a GT3, the clutch pedal is waaaaay waaay too heavy for the daily comfort of the turbo. I drive the turbo every day and it feels even better during traffic than the S felt (also a bit heavier)
just keep practicing and youll get comfortable

I am very new to the Porsche driving experience so take my suggestion with a grain of salt. I was told by another porsche driver that you need to give a little throttle blip as you let the clutch out going from first to second. He recommends not entirely coming off the gas as you shift. I have tried it and it gets rid of any turbo lag and the shift is much smoother. I am used to driving Vipers and this seems like a great way to ruin a clutch. He says its fine. What do the rest of you think? Is he as nuts as he sounds?
