Aside from retaining a lawyer and swearing to never do that again what advice would you give to a first time speeder - but boy was this one a doozy.

TIA

what type of ticket did you get?...once I was in old backroad/hwy in farmland and cops actually had a radar trap out there and I got clocked at 100mph in 35 zone...cop said " Ill be nice and wont tow your car or give you a speeding ticket but I will give you a reckless driving ticket"...what a jerk!...much better to get a speeding ticket and get your car towed than getting the reckless charge...he even mentioned in his report I was near a school(implying I put kids at risk) when the school was several miles away and it was 9pm on a Sat night!...cop also asked if I thought it was safe to drive that fast and I said "no, you should only drive this fast on the track"...guess what cop wrote in his report??.. defendent claimed "he liked to race his car"!!!

If you know your getting a "doozy" of a ticket, dont say anything to incriminate yourself as they will lie and stretch whatever you say to use against you in court.

Reckless charge is analogous to getting a DUI charge and is a criminal offense...you can up to 1 yr in jail and 3 yrs of SR 22 insurance change and a huge fine...and if you ever apply for a job you would have to declare this as a criminal offense.

Had to get a lawyer...the cost ranged from 1500.00-3500.00 after meeting several lawyers...I went with a guy in the middle...he plea bargained it down to 2nd degree negligent driving as this is only a major traffic violation...but by time I paid fine and lawyer i was out 3000.00...that was a very expensive trip to Starbucks!....

Funny thing is this, when I went to court I was with a bunch of teens doing much worse than I did...they didnt have lawyers...I got the sense I prob could have plea bargained my charge down on my own but because of work how can you risk this?..I couldnt.

Needless to say I drive fairly slow now...

I just got a 95 in a 65 on my bmw k1200rs, but I thought on the ticket he only wrote me a 10 over as I saw in the copy it was 75...boy was I surprised when I wasn't offered traffic school in court. Then I saw the 7 was a 9 and I was Yah that was my first speeding ticket though since I was 16, I am 25 now. I got points and a nice $500 fine. Lucky thing was that he only clocked me at 95, I was doing 120mph as I was late to work and had slowed down just prior to him clocking me b/c my spidey sense went off after holding 110+ mph for a couple miles+.

aside from feeling really stupid for driving that fast i have come to the realization that this could really be bad. I received three tickets overall - excessive speed, reckless driving and having an expired insurance card (valid insurance, just didn't have the card). I'm not usually a high speed driver but got caught up with another 911 driver, open road, beautiful day until i got caught.

Cop was decent enough - my first ticket in nearly 7 years and the preivous one before that was more than 10 years prior. The worst thing, besides getting caught, is that I was on the highway for a total about about 5 miles.

I feel the pain. I've been lucky so far with the Turbo but was pulled over often when I had my MB 600 Brabus. Twice i got lucky and the cops just let me go caused they like the car I reckon. Once, well suffice it to say I spent a day at the driver school to shave some points off. It sucked.

Streetracing, 135 in a 45 in the GT. Luckily Cop was cool and didn't write it up as streetracing and reduced speed. Said he could impound car and go to jail. Hefty fine and points. Ouch!!

i got caught at 133 in a 40.. luckily my neighbor is a well known cop in town and he helped me out big time. i wound up with eleven minor tickets instead of the reckless. I'd say get a lawyer and plea it down as best you can. I know in NJ one can buy points off their license instead of paying the insurance costs. Good luck let us know how you make out

Just had a friend out from Atlanta and he said if you're caught doing more than 20 over the limit, they MUST take you to jail! Don't know what the rule is here in CA, but this is scary!!

In California - 100 mph+ they can take you to jail, impound your car, give you reckless driving - or all of above - minimum fine is $1,500. So if you find yourself in that situation be cool with the patrolman/officer etc. and hope for 90+ in a 65 mph zone - or something like that. Will be far less painful.

Good luck with your current issues.

How about getting thrown down in the mud and arrested for doing 135 in a 60 after taking a 35 mph turn at 75 sliding all the way thru the turn? Does that count? My friend its time for you to lawyer up , but if your lucky they will drop the reckless to a negligent since its been so long since you had a ticket.

Good Ticket

I got a 97 in a 75 in Colorado a few years ago. The HP was a decent guy and somehow, the fine was only $125. I was in an Audi A8 with my wife. The Porsche might have been a different story.
