530hp 997SC: Looking for legal race with a TT
#18
I have seen a few SC setups on the 997. They were very well done. Forced induction in the 997 is not a hack...many tuners including Ruf offer a setup...anyone who thinks they are a hack or joke hasn't driven in one.
Cattman...if you're ever in Wisconsin, I know a few private drives that we can go test the limits.

Agree with ttdude. How exactly is GPS data subjective?
Not to knock your challenge, as I do hope you find someone, but what does a TT owner have to gain from this but satisfy your curiosity? You have everything to gain and nothing to lose and a TT owner has the exact opposite. Am I looking at this wrong?

After all we are all Porsche guys here, and to be quite honest......if I had a turbo I would be curious to what it would do against a supercharged car! I also like to see what other Porsche owners(including the ELITE turbo guys) are doing with their cars,BUT I am just a car junkie so maybe I need to look at this another way....
NOT like he is asking the guy to race a Moped.....or at least I hope you guys have a bit more respect for us LOW/budget dollar Porsches than that,LOL!
Heck, send one of those TPC turbo Caymans and see what Cattman could do against them......I am POSITIVE he would.
A Porsche is a Porsche and "We are all family"....
Better yet I need to get a life and KICK this car habit to the curb!
Anyone know of 'Car junkies anonymous club" I could join because I HAVE A PROBLEM!

Thank-you for clarifying!

In terms of a datalog, what do you recommend? I have the Durametric cable, and can log that kind of OBDII data, and I have a GTech which can log 0-60, 0-100, and 1/4 mile data. I've not used my GTech for that though, as I used it primarily to measure HP/TQ.
A visit to Commerce, GA sounds like an obvious path.

The issue I care about, and perhaps am alone in that, is my car vs a stock 997TT. That's all.
I am not challenging any individual, or TT owners in general, and I apologize if it came across that way.
All I want to do is see the 2 cars perform purely as a gearhead, not a swaggering pissing contest. Again, I want to be crystal clear that my intent is purely from a non-ego based intellectual curiosity.
All I want to know is how my car, with it's mods, would compete against a stock 997TT.

We used to go to Commerce Friday nights for test and tunes. On a good night we could get 7-8 runs for $25. Take a helmet, long pants, and a long sleeved shirt or you'll only run once.

BUT be sure,at the start line, she IS facing the guy with the turbo....
And when the start gun goes off so does her shirt.......
You will WIN for sure!

Quarter mile data from a GPS datalogger isn't as accurate as a NHRA certified track, typically, but you can get a really good idea of how your car runs against a lot of other fast cars and still save your clutch by doing 60-130 runs. It has kind of become the defacto gold standard...it requires some practice and technique. The obvious 0-as fast as you can go does not always yield the best 60-130...your shift points, number of shifts, etc will all affect your time. In fact, the data we look at also include altitude, temperature, slope of the the road, etc to make a fair comparison between cars.
You'll be able to get a pretty good idea how your car stack up against other vehicles in the same class...Z06, GT-R, 997TT to name a few. If you are able to take down a stock 997TT, I'd figure you to be in the 9 second.

Are you talking 60-130 or 1/4 mile times? I think bbywu was talking 60-130.
