530hp 997SC: Looking for legal race with a TT
Hi Folks,
While I am new to the 6speed 997TT/GT2 sub-forum, I am a respected and polite gentleman well-known on the 997 pages.
I've got a 530HP 997SC (supercharged, it started as a 2005 997s). This daily driver has 50k miles on it, and depending on the day, my child's car seat and a dozen soccer *****.
I'd like to find a legal way of testing my car vs a stock 997TT for the following:
-5-60mph
-0-125mph
-quarter mile time and trap
If there is anyone near Atlanta, who is interested and has some ideas about where we might conduct these tests, please let me know here AND via PM. Perhaps Road Atlanta or PSDS in Birmingham?
Thanks.
CATTMAN

You could also consider doing a few 60-130 runs on a pbox to get a pretty good comparison against other cars here:

If you find someone to run against, try and get a hold of a GPS data logger...this ought to be interesting

Thanks, but I had something slightly less subjective in mind.
To be clear: I have great reverence for the 997TT. It's possible that the latest version will become legendary- I hope it is, as I'm ordering one!
That said, there's no lack of folks modding their 997's to try to compete in line with a 997TT.
I am hoping to find people with 997TT's who are willing to run in a line against variously modified 997's on a strip, track, etc., over several runs to be averaged, neutralizing conditions and measurement calibration techniques.
The 997TT is incredible, I love it. But I want to know this: can a 997SC match or top it due to lighter weight and no lag? I know I have more power, but can I lay it down with just RWD? I, and others, want to find out!

Agree with ttdude. How exactly is GPS data subjective?
Not to knock your challenge, as I do hope you find someone, but what does a TT owner have to gain from this but satisfy your curiosity? You have everything to gain and nothing to lose and a TT owner has the exact opposite. Am I looking at this wrong?

Pbox data is probably your best bet brother. That, and maybe take it to a 1/4 mile track. I am sure there are events where 997TT's will be present. Perhaps take it to one of those events and run it on the same day a 997TT is running so you can get a good comparison. I think GPS logging is the best way to measure your car's actual speed and to compare it with other cars, IMHO.
You have a very unique car and I'm sure the characteristics are much different than a 997TT's.

The TT, particularly the new one, is such a well conmposed masterpiece, I know there's no way a hacked up 997SC can be as "whole" as either a GT3 or a TT, but I remain interested in knowing what gap might exist in terms of comparative straight-line acceleration: a drag strip.
And sure, GTech data is reliable, I've used it myself, and trust it. Looks like no takers, so I'll just have to wait until I buy a TT and test them head to head on my own.
In the meantime, perhaps someone in ATL would be willing to meet up and give me a ride in their TT so I can at least try to subjectively feel any difference from the passenger seat?

Hi Misha,
I've been running the SC for 2,500 miles. Your GT2M wing looks awesome on it, here's a pic- I owe you some good ones after my next detail!

It actually is a really nice(alot of work for sure)...install.
Pretty 'BRILLIANT' to the eyes too, when you open the decklid,LOL!
IMO...I think it would be a good run with a stock 997TT,better than alot of people might think!

I have seen a few SC setups on the 997. They were very well done. Forced induction in the 997 is not a hack...many tuners including Ruf offer a setup...anyone who thinks they are a hack or joke hasn't driven in one.
Cattman...if you're ever in Wisconsin, I know a few private drives that we can go test the limits.
