Fabspeed exhaust tips mounted and burning the plastic housing

Got a question for those who put the fabspeed tips on the car.So i put mine on today...the passenger side had good clearance (ie didn't touch the plastic housing) but the driver side was really tight.so the mechanic did what he could to bring it out a bit and gave it a as much clearance as he could by tightening the bolt and pulling on it away from the housing. When i drove off, it had about 1mm around the innner part. But as i was driving home, i noticed that plastic was burning. Just wonder if you experienced the same thing. its really tight on the driver side... i dont mind a bit of burning since once its burnt, it won't move anymore i hope. lolany feedback would be appreciated.

Used a great big ugly 10' steel pipe to achieve perfect harmonious tip symmetry on my 996tt aftermarket exhaust.

so you guys just bent the exhaust till it fit.man, my driver side is so close to the housing that i'm debating just leaving it or trying to bend it more.

need to loosen entire exhaust, to set right. I tack welded my tips on ($700 don't want to count on a set screw). Good luck!!!

The bogg, i'm assuming your refering to webtool1 since i have no pm's from you.so have to loosen the whole exhaust system ... fk, wish i knew that before i purchased these tips. Now should i just let it melt a bit of plastic or take it back to the shop? Is there any harm in letting it melt a bit of plastic? I can't see those plastic trim pieces being expensive and if i went back to the stock tips who is really going to stare right into that hole (ie resale down the road) although its looking like i'm gonna keep this car for a long time.

sorry to keep bombarding this post but i'm wondering do those plastic housing units by the tips pop out easily (ie snaps)? or do you have to remove the bumper to get those plastic housing units out via hidden screws etc that can't be seen until you remove the bumper / heat shielding material?

lol ... yes i'm painfully aware of that. I'm sure for a piece of plastic they will be expensive but relatively to other porsche parts they will be cheap. lol

so i was able to move the tips 1mm or so ...there appears to be a slight gap btw tips and plastic housing. I'll just monitor it ... i'm worried i'll hit a bump or during spirited driving it might shift and more plastic will burn. guess 1-2mm wont kill anybody...just dont want anything more.

I'm gonna try and have another go at it tonight once the tips cool down.

My tips touch a bit on the insides of the black plastic and each inner exhaust side. I called FS about this and they said...no problem with hurting the heat-resistant black plastic. They have never seen any melting either. I have noticed no melting on mine which have gone thru two hot summers in Florida with a lot of high speed driving.

I don't have fabspeed but have similar (probably identical) quad tips on mine. Tips also slightly touch the plastic surrounding but have not noticed any melting.

Do you have the entire exhaust system with high flow cats? I just have stock exhaust so may be it runs cooler than modified...

i'm glad to hear from teh last 3 posters whose tips touch. When i look at my tips the driver side also touch. I haven't seen any melting even when i shine a flashlight in. However, those tips must get really hot (that whole area must generate a lot of heat being the turbo's/exhaust is right there) and logic would suggest that hot tips touching plastic would cause some melting.question for those of you that have the tips that touch slightly, the first couple times you drove did you smell burning plastic? I've driven the car 3x and each time i can smell a bit of it however as i said when i stare into hole it doesn't look like anything is wrong. I'm wondering if its just taking off the mm or so that it needs to or if a bit of the plastic melted onto the tips and every time it heats up, its burns off a bit more (ie soon i wont smell anything)
