Hey Tom, I went the FVD route in the end as the modules were a constant pain of trial & error… Wasted lots of time and $$$ @ 2 different shops trying to program the modules to the suggested pin combinations with no luck… Also tried them with the new modules but the dash constantly threw errors and lit up like a Christmas tree…Tried the FVD controllers and they work perfectly… The joy of not seeing those errors codes. (Note I have an 08 TT with the older modules)

Thanks for your feedback. Rhonda at fvd suggested I try spraying CRC on the harness connectors especially the side that plugs into the car since it's 13 yrs old. Did that on Sat and now I need to do some testing and have someone drive behind me while I run through the turn signals at various speeds and surfaces. Glad to hear the fvd controllers have worked with you. The engineer at fvd and Rhonda felt if my issues persist then its the OEM lights.

Put my OEM tail lights in a friends .2 C2 and followed him. Turn signals worked great as well as all other functions. Put his lights in my car and same issue no turn signals working so it's definitely not the OEM lights. It's either I have a newer control module or modules in my car or the FVD controller's are not working. Prior owner had a 997.2 GT3 front bumper on the car with the OEM LED DRL's. This was prior to FVD making the controllers for the front LED conversion. I have to assume the only way he could run that set up was by replacing the 2007 front and rear control units to the 2009. I have to assume at this point that the pins need to be swapped and I need to remove the FVD controllers and trim the tab on the LED lights and program.

Or Just buy older control units for my car and Keep the FVD controllers. I'm not so handy to shave off the tab on the OEM lights. I'd be concerned I'd damage them. So that is my dilemma. I have not had time to dig into removing the trim to try and access the front control unit and rear for a part number. That will answer my question most likely. I may plug in my durametric pro and access the front control unit and see if it gives me the option of LED lights and if so then it must be a newer control unit.

Accessed the front Control Module and it's 997 618 512 01. To the best of what I can see it's the newer 2009+ control module for pretty much every Carrera except the Turbo! I'm sure this explains why the FVD controllers are doing everything except allowing the indicators to work when the engine is running. Since the front is a newer CM I wonder if the pin swap is similar or if that would even work. Need to access the rear CM and see what the part number is. This must have been how the prior owner was able to have .2 OEM LED DRL's.

I'm a bit baffled at what the difference actually is between the 2009 CM for a turbo 997 618 513 01 or what is in the car now listed above.

Not sure if I just need to keep the fvd controllers and by pass on the trimming of the tabs on the factory tails lights. Locate the front and possibly rear CM for my 2007 turbo and hopefully be done. OR, get the 2009 front and rear CM's and hope that all the pin swapping and re-programing works and have to shave the tabs on the factory lights?

Man this turned out way more time consuming than I was expecting.

Could be the 997 618 512 01 CM doesn't work with the FVD modules... Have you check with FVD on which is recommended? I have the 997 618 513 01 CM and it was a straight plug and play with no programming needed... Have an extra if you need one.

Interesting because that one that you have is the 2009+ that from what all I have read required all the pin swapping etc...Yes I have the question out to FVD about which front and rear CU are a guaranteed solution when using the FVD controllers and should hear today hopefully.

What CU are you running in as the rear one?

Yes It's highly likely I will need to buy a front CU with your part # so please reach out to me via text about what your asking for your extra.

Thanks for your help!

Correction on the front CU number. Here is exactly what I am running with the FVD controllers:

Front: 997.610.104.11
Rear: 997.618.537.07

Actually drove to FVD in Umkirch, Germany a few weeks back since I have been stationed overseas and the guys there are real deal. They know these cars inside out and sell some awesome parts... Next order, 200 cell cat sports exhaust & headers.

Fdw,

The rear module should be either 997 618 260 01 or 02 or 03 or 04 or 06. The newest one is 08. On my car there seems to be an outer cover prior to getting to the actual CM and that number is 997 618 371 01. Im pretty sure I need to pull up the drivers seat and remove this cover to actually access the CM. I'll be doing this in the next day or so. The part number you gave for the rear does not seem right but I may be wrong.

fdw,

Got to the controller on my car. It's 997 618 260 06, so I'm assuming the original from 2006-07. The part # you gave me is actually another module that I believe controls that seat. I have the same one. You have to dig deaper and uncover a protective plastic cover/housing that holds the rear CM in it probably to protect from liquid spills etc...

I bought an older CM front from LA Dismantler on ebay part 997 610 104 11 and will be swapping that out for the one I have and playing with Durametric Pro since it may need to be programed. Since I have the FVD contollers and since most and also FVd themselves state that they work on the older control modules I am hoping I will be able to correct my non working indicators on the tail lights. Fingers crossed.

Didn’t realize there were 2 CU’s. Hard to see & get under there without dismantling the entire seat… Hopefully, that does the trick and no new controllers needed!

My saga continues

Can anyone with a 997.1 turbo tell me how the BLUE and BLACK cables that connect to the front control module are set up on their cars please?

I ask because I removed the front CM that should not be in my car 997 618 512 01 and went to connect the original 2007 one which I bought from ebay and LA dismantler 997 610 104 11. The problem is my blue connectors on this CM are in opposite locations. So to be able to connect I had to turn the CM upside down. Once connected some head lights or hi beams came on but it just DOES NOT seem right to have to be using it this way. Additionally, I could not connect using my durametric pro. When I turned on the car the front fan started to run which I hear is normal until that CM has been coded to the car. Since I could not make a connection I gave up and put the old CM in. The upside down CM was very hot which made me think I was not doing something correctly.

So on your cars I just need to know is the blue harness on the left and black on the right? Or visa versa?

I'm trying to get the 07 CM in the front so hopefully my FVD controllers will work 100% on my 997.2 tail light update.

Thanks,

Tom

Top is what was in my car. CM to everything but a turbo or GT2. 2009 + Bottom is what should be in a 2007 Turbo.
Blue connector on left and black on right. This is the wrong control module for my car.

Some progress being made. Turns out the 09 Carrera front control module that is in my car also had some pin changes made to the wiring. Very possibly even the blue and black connectors were swapped by accident(just the sleeves or outer parts)! Again this was all done by the prior owner when he opted for a 997.2 GT3 front bumper cover with the factory LED, DRL's. Now that the car is back to complete 997.1 stock front end all of that needs to be reversed. The Porsche tech who did this 10 years ago left Porsche of San Antonio and just recently came back and remembered what was done.

The chances that anyone else ever has this issue are slim to none. I'm just recording this rant like a diary entry. HAHA!

Pins swapped back to 2007 turbo and the 2007 control module was installed and coded to the car. FVD controllers still in use and everything is working great. FINALLY, Thank God!
