Radar det/laser jammers
I have only been a member of the forum since January 2010. I have learned a great deal from you all - thanks!
I am about to take delivery of a 2011 TTs and want to hear opinions on radar detectors and laser jammers. I currently use the Valentine 1. It is hard wired into my vehicle and have been pretty satisfied.
Does anyone have any opinions on systems? What about the radar/laser jammers sold and installed by the P dealers - are theseany good?
Sure appreciate you opinions.

I've only ever used the Valentine 1 and love it! It works great minus the false alarms, but I can't count how many times it has saved me! As far as the jammers are concerned, I've heard they don't work....Plus if they did, your asking for trouble!Congrats on your new car by the way!

I have also had great luck with val 1. When I bought my 07tt it already had the K40 calibre installed with front and rear radar/lazer. There is two little blue lights mounted on the steering column and a voice speaker mounted somewhere. I have to say that I have been very impressed with the system and you do not know it is in the car. I think the range is not as good as the V1 but the front/rear sensors are located very low on the car, not so with the V1 on the dash or windshield.

I have V1s in two cars and K40s in two
I far prefer the k40
it's just a lot more money
everyone raves about the v1
it's good don't get me wrong
but to me the k40 is so much better

I have the binder laser jammer system + v1 and got my first laser ticket a few months ago. The jammer and v1 both went off as soon as I got shot but I guess the jammers didn't work, Leo said he got me at 82/65. Not sure if the cop bs'd it or not but again the jammer went off like it's suppose to but I still got the ticket...

LOVE my Escort 9500 ci. They put two radar receivers in the front to really maximize the reception and the GPS lockout function virtually eliminates all false alarms on roads that you've driven a couple times.
In my mind the GPS function almost revolutionized the radar detector market. Not only in terms of elminating false alarms, but notifying you when approaching intersections with speedcams etc. Database updates come out weekly and you just hook your laptop up and boom - it has all the latest locations for North America.
Laser jammers certainly do work by close personal accounts (and one experience by me so far). I realize there are legality issues in some jurisdictions, and it always seems a little "grey". But after you are zapped and your detector goes beserk and says "shifting" you just slow down and double tap mute to turn them off and allow the Leo to get a lower reading.
Other huge feature is that it is a custom built in installation that when done right looks almost OEM. Of course that comes with a cost as well - and it's not cheap - but these also aren't cheap cars we're driving. The 9500ix has similar capabilities and features (minus laser shifting) as a cheaper stand alone traditional detector.
Obviously can't go wrong with the tried and true V1 as well - do some research on the top detectors and see what works for you and fits in your budget would be my advice. Safe travels!

Not a fan of the K40, Used to have the older k40 laser jammer model on my old Cayman S, it was just ok, to be quite honest I often questioned whether it even picked up laser... I tried to have a newer k40 model installed on my Gallardo and had nothing but problems(which Is why i ended up w/ the passport). Keep in mind, k40 is in my area too, and they still couldn't get it fixed, the back detector kept getting out of sync (this was supposedly one of the newer k40 models that is still what is avail today). Was a freaking nightmare, would never go w/ it again. The only reason I wanted the k40 was bc it is the only that offers a rear Radar receiver too (other are just radar front only and laser front+rear. The other problem w/ it was the false alarms.. It doesnt display the radar type, it just freaks out and flashes then you have to listen for a voice to figure out what it is..
+1 for Passport 9500 ci, I have it on my Gallardo and absolutely love it. The technology integrated w/ GPS is just plain awesome. Plus if you keep it updated (via usb cable and the web) you get red light camera locations and it will notify you of it. And you can actually configure the the thing. The k40 only had a few options to select. Passport I can turn certain bands off etc, you can even disable the laser shift functionality and have it work as a regular detector.
One thing to note.. IMO when it comes to laser jamming it is CRITICAL to have it mounted properly.. i.e. LEVEL! It makes a diff in the performance.. the whole concept is that you are beaming back laser at the laser gun to confuse it... if your jammer is pointed slightly at the ground or slightly up into the sky, it's not going to do much of anything. :P

I would like to know how does V1 works. I mean everybody is happy with it. Here in Cyprus police uses laser guns so as soon as they shout on a car they have resaults of the speed. So how can it save you? It takes less than a PDK gear shift for the laser gun to have the resault of your speed
